Leprechaun In The Hood

Looking Back on 25 Years Of ‘LEPRECHAUN IN THE HOOD’ (2000)

Leprechaun In The Hood is a 2000 American black comedy horror film directed by Rob Spera.  It was released 25 years ago in March. Have you revisited it recently?

Maybe it’s time…

Have a look at the trailer!

Synopsis

The film follows Warwick Davis as the evil leprechaun who searches for his magic flute that three hoodlums stole and kills anyone who gets in his way.

This was directed and written by Rob Spera  and starred Warwick Davis as the evil leprechaun and Ice T as Mack Daddy.

Facts and Trivia

As i was revisiting this movie, I found some fun facts that i would love to share with you.

  • Filming was briefly halted when Warwick Davis had chronic flatulence, and again when a power outage occurred.
  • Director of Leprechaun 3 (1995) and Leprechaun 4: In Space (1997), Brian Trenchard-Smith pitched his idea for what the 5th movie would’ve been, which would’ve had the Leprechaun finding his way into the White House. As the director has noted, his version would have seen the little imp infiltrating an oafish but well-meaning first family. As a political satire of the Clinton era as that was the director’s favorite president, but the studio, Trimark turned it down, feeling it was “too out there.” at the time.
  • Last series entry to be released by Trimark.
  • First film where Warwick Davis doesn’t get sole top billing. It’s him and Ice-T before the title cards.
  • Had the closest release date to St. Patrick’s Day. Was released to DVD on March 28, 2000.
  • Obviously Due to this film’s awfully low budget most of the filming of this movie took place on a film set located at the back of a theatre.

Movie Quotes

  • Leprechaun: “A friend with weed is a friend indeed, but a friend with gold is the best I’m told.”

Final Thoughts

If you are looking for St.Patty’s Day  lore horror you have come to the right place. One of my favorite kills in this movie is when he kills one of the rappers by making him shoot himself.  If you want to start your old school horror journey, I would recommend this movie.

Happy 25th anniversary!
