Netflix has killed with their horror and thriller selections this year and one of their new ones is Hypnotic. Lucie Guest stars in the film and we had the honor of chatting with her once again. Lucie is a great actress and delivers an amazing performance in Hypnotic. Learn about her career, her favorite horror movies, what her character is like in Hypnotic, and more!
PopHorror – Hi Lucie. How is 2021 treating you so far?
Lucie Guest – Hi PopHorror!! It’s good to talk with you again! 2021 going pretty great so far! I would say it’s topping 2020 haha. It’s nice that things are feeling like they are getting back to normal-ish, post-pandemic. I went on a plane for the first time since covid and it was glorious! I love traveling and I really missed it. I went to NYC for a week and I was reborn.
PopHorror – That’s wonderful to hear. What inspired you to become an actress?
Lucie Guest – I’ve always been interested in acting and performing. I can remember when I was growing up doing plays in the backyard with my brother and sister and friends. We moved around a lot so, I think drama class and performing was a way to make new friends and seemed to work.
PopHorror – What was the first film you worked on and how was the experience?
Lucie Guest – I think it was a short film, I don’t even remember the name of it. I think the film played at a couple of film festivals, it was very indie… I played one of the love interests of a serial dater, I don’t really remember much of it because it was so long ago, but I remember that I didn’t like how it turned out, that happens sometimes.
PopHorror – Very true. Your new film is a horror thriller. Do you enjoy horror films and if so which one is your favorite?
Lucie Guest – I am a fan of nostalgic old-school scary movies, my fave sub-genre is horror-comedy. I also love a good thriller. I really enjoyed Get Out, and I’m late to the game but I just binged Mindhunter on Netflix. Obviously, anything Fincher does I’m in.
PopHorror – Love those! How did you get involved with Netflix’s Hypnotic?
Lucie Guest – I had worked with the producers before. I read the script and I thought it was amazing. I was excited when I found out I was offered the part of Gina, I had not worked with the director’s Matt Angel and Suzanne Coote before and they were such a treat to work with.
PopHorror – Could you relate to Gina at all?
Lucie Guest – What Gina and I have in common is that we’re both fiercely loyal and supportive of our friends. I always want to help out my friends if they’re not feeling great and they need a cheerleader or boost!
However, we are not similar when it comes to the fear of spiders. I’d never had a tarantula on me before filming Hypnotic but, surprisingly, it was… how do I say it… love at first sight? His name was Harry, fitting for a harry tarantula with giant fangs, but he turned out to be a real cutie and a gentleman. I guess because they’re so big and they move slowly it almost felt like a small pet?? Not saying I would ever own a pet spider.
PopHorror – Haha, I think that’s sweet. I have pet rats and they’re the most loving, furry creatures ever! Any favorite scenes?
Lucie Guest – Anything where I got to work with Harry was a thrill clearly! But I also loved working with Kate Siegel! I would love to work with her again in the future. She’s such a dream and the cast of this movie was such a good group of humans.
PopHorror – LOVE THEM BOTH! Are you excited to work on a Netflix film?
Lucie Guest – I’m always excited to work on a Netflix project because I know that all of my friends and family have access to watching it.
PopHorror – I bet, which is so cool. What’s next for you?
Lucie Guest – I just finished filming a movie called Disappearance in Yellowstone. I play a mom whose daughter goes missing in Yellowstone Park and she goes on a mission to try and find her, directed by Tony Dean Smith. I also just finished writing another short film called. Been Better, Actually.
PopHorror – Well, Lucie, it was a pleasure chatting with you again. Thanks for taking the time out of your schedule and I look forward to all your upcoming projects. Netflix’s Hypnotic is now streaming on Netflix.
