PopHorror Let's Get Scared
Fantastic Fest 2020’s lineup is amazing this year with a variety of films and performances that are award-worthy. One of them is The Boy Behind the Door. This film premiered this past Sunday, September 27th, and it was groundbreaking.
Written and directed by David Charbonier (Secret Admirer 2015) and Editor Justin Powell (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire 2013) with an incredible cast starring Lonnie Chavis (This Is Us TV series), Ezra Dewey (Criminal Minds TV series), Kristin Bauer van Straten (True Blood TV series), Scott Michael Foster (Once Upon A Time TV series), and Micah Hauptman (Homeland TV series).
Synopsis for The Boy Behind the Door
After Bobby and his best friend, Kevin, are kidnapped and taken to a strange house in the middle of nowhere, Bobby manages to escape. But as he starts to make a break for it, he hears Kevin’s screams for help and realizes he can’t leave his friend behind.
This film is driven with emotionally powerful performances, beautiful cinematography, and a crippling story that will send chills down your spine. This film is a parent’s worst nightmare and unfortunately represents a haunting experience that way too many families have to endure when their children go missing. It’s captivating and heartbreaking and leaves you at the edge of your seat.
The phenomenal performances are what make The Boy Behind the Door uniquely special. Lonnie Chavis and Ezra Dewey both deliver emotionally powered performances that will shake you to your core. Their characters are driven by fear, hope, and courage, and above all, friendship. When most people would have given up, they kept fighting for each other. Kristin Bauer van Straten is equally phenomenal, and as always, she delivers a performance that leaves a lasting impression.
The lighting and camera angles used help set the tone and atmosphere throughout the film. Together, it gives a sense of dread and hopelessness which counteract beautifully with the strong and relentless character performances.
