PopHorror Let's Get Scared
This year marks the 30th edition of the prestigious Fantasia International Film Festival and here at PopHorror we could not be more excited!
Running from July 16th, 2026, to August 2, 2026, the festival opens this year with the return of Nicolas Winding Refn and the Canadian premiere of his new film, Her Private Hell, and closes with the world premiere of Zack Lipovsky and Adam Stein’s Freaks Part II. With over 125 features and 200+ shorts, there’s bound to be something for everyone. Fantasia will also be presenting the extraordinary Cheval Noir Career Achievement Award to Refn as well as to master of horror, Takashi Shimizu. If attending in person, this is something you do not want to miss.
Here is just some of the programming that PopHorror is excited to experience during this year’s festival:
In Jenn Wexler’s The Last Temptation of Becky, Lulu Wilson returns as the titular Becky and this time she’s working for the CIA. What kind of destruction can the plucky Becky bring upon the world in this third installment of the franchise? We can’t wait to find out!
The aforementioned Her Private Hell has been on our radar for quite some time and it’s about to be unleashed on the world. We. Are. Here. For. It. Refn has become synonymous with beautifully haunting films set to pulse-pounding soundscapes and we have no doubt this will satiate our hunger for more Refn in our lives.
Casper Kelly’s feature theatrical debut, Buddy, brings us a slasher about a homicidal mascot voiced by Keegan-Michael Key. Wait, what? Color us whimsically intrigued!
Corpus, the feature debut by Corrin Evans, promises us 90s New York, creepiness, and enough twists and turns to keep us captivated.
The Adams Family returns to Fantasia this year for the sixth consecutive time with their latest joint film, The Glorious Dead, which will no doubt confirm that blood is thicker than water and the family that slays together, stays together.
Another feature directorial debut that has us fascinated is Michael Gabrele’s Yuletide horror film, Unholy Night. If you read PopHorror, you know that holiday horror is a favorite here so we’re looking forward to Christmas in July!
