Doug Sakmann’s ‘PUNK ROCK HOLOCAUST’ (2003) / ‘PUNK ROCK HOLOCAUST 2’ (2004) – Retro Review

Doug Sakmann and Lloyd Kaufman made this work in 2003. I will admit here that these movies are wrong now. But it’s all so bad that I love it. Watching your heroes die in extreme ways, with minimal CGI, stole my heart. Why was there no more? I don’t precisely know, Warped tour kind of sucked at the end of their era. The early 2000s were still a fading wild west. I wish others would make this a style, but they won’t. Critics cannot beat Troma; it only makes them stronger. Punk Rock Holocaust saved the genre with comedy instead of being scary.

Punk Rock Holocaust

Why do we leave these movies in the dust? It’s simple: everyone who loves them at one time is different. Warped Tour wasn’t even playing up their hype. It was the same type of band, whatever the trend was at the time—Kevin Lyman was money-hungry and did what the new kids loved. (Chief of Warped Tour).

Synopsis

A journalist (Heather Vantress)has gotten the chance to report on Warped Tour. In her travels through each day, Heather realizes that one by one bands are dying whater its feeding a vegan pure animal fat. A killer is loose and ready to party. As he slices and dices throughout the bands and then fans. Will they keep going on the tour? he makes a pact with a demon to make his shows great. Who will survive?

The early days were so fun; I was lucky enough to be the one who revived punk rock. I lived for it; I still do it in my 40s. One day, we will cherish these memories of mosh pits at 11 AM. This is where I found Punk Rock Holocaust, and my life changed.

Punk Rock Holocaust 2

In 2004, They did it again and pushed more boundaries. I honestly do prefer the 2nd to 1st. The story was old and repetitive. However, they made it different somehow. With the slasher back, what are they supposed to do? This time, he was frantically searching for his head and was unafraid to take someone else’s head.

Synopsis

Reporter Meghan has founf herself reporting for Warped Tour. She soon learns that the killer is still alive and well, only without a head, the killer s not shy about using someone elses head. Kevin Lyman brushes it off as another crisis at another show. Touring the area, she is finding dead fans and bands. The killer continues and eventually gets his head back, then he gets a little crazy.

The second story was a bit better for me; I feel there was still a chance for punk rock back then. Maybe I wouldn’t be a 40-year-old with the mind of a 15-year-old; that’s how I go. The only thing that kept the first movie in a close second was that the second Punk Rock Holocaust kept a spirit alive, even if it was the same as the first with a different reporter.

In the end

This is just pure fun. It’s not spooky; it’s rad. I would suggest these movies to anyone looking for a good laugh. Warped Tour has been squashed and is now a dead cell to our childhood. Thank you for reading this article! I hope it brought back some good memories.

You can find both movies on the Troma Now!  streaming service.
