PopHorror Goes to Days of the Dead Chicago 2017

Being a part of the horror community is probably my favorite thing in the world. There is nothing like being with people that understand your love for this genre and there’s no place in the world that understands this more than at a Days of the Dead convention. They’re always a non-stop, action-filled party weekend. So let’s take a look back at my time at Days of the Dead Chicago 2017 from November 17-19th. Next year, make sure you’re there and please be sure to say hello!

So many celebrities! So little time! You would think with the convention being three days long, you would have all the time in the world to do and see everything that you wanted to at a place like this. Luckily, Day of the Dead gives you a schedule of all of the events and the times they take place, so you can plan your time accordingly. What were some of the awesome activities scheduled at the 2017 convention? I am glad you asked! For starters, you could have seen some amazing indie horror flicks, such as Close Calls (read our review here) from talented director Richard Stringham.

Or even see the premiere of the sequel She Was so Pretty: Be Good for Goodness Sake, directed by the amazing Brooklyn Ewing.

Aside from the movies that they had playing all weekend long, you could check out live Q&As with a ton of celebrity guests. One of my favorite panels was the one with Sean Astin and getting to hear him speak of all his roles, from being Bob on Stranger Things to playing Mikey in The Goonies. There was even a Hellraiser reunion panel! There were up close and personal chats with Kane Hodder and Steve Dash, where you could get the skinny on their times playing the infamous killer Jason Voorhees from the Friday the 13th franchise.

In between panels, you could stop by, chat and get an autograph with the legendary actors Linda Blair, Felissa Rose, Ryan Hurst, Doug Bradley, the Soska Sisters, or even Sid Haig, plus many, many more!

Last but not least, you even could have chatted with the ultimate ’80s bully, William Zabka from The Karate Kid and Just One of the Guys!

There were a ton of vendors at Days of the Dead, such as Jay Langley’s Scarebears. You can check out his work right here – it’s amazing!

Days of the Dead is always a total blast, and 2017 was no exception! But you do have to eat sometimes. I would highly recommend checking out Andy John’s Chicago Prime Italian restaurant like I did. It was like a slice of heaven with some awesome company!

That’s a wrap on my weekend at Days of the Dead. Until next year!
