Corbin Nash Still

‘Corbin Nash’ (2018) – A Transvestite Vamp Film Review

Corbin Nash has created quite a stir in Hollywood, mostly due to the fact that this is the long awaited return of Corey Feldman to the big screen. Corey Feldman is no stranger to both the pop and horror genres. He is a poster child for ’80s films, appearing in all of our childhood favorites – Stand By Me, The Goonies, The Lost Boys, Gremlins, Dream A Little Dream, License to Drive and Friday the 13th – Final Chapter. He even did the voice of the hound in Disney’s Fox and the Hound. Although he has kept busy in Hollywood, this is his first release to the big screen in some time.

In the Jagger Brothers’ Corbin Nash, he takes on a different role than what we are used to him portraying, playing a transvestite vampire named Queeny. Along with Corey Feldman, there are quite a few familiar faces in this film. But does Corbin Nash live up to the hype? Read on to find out.

Storyline for Corbin Nash:

Set in a bloodthirsty Los Angeles, one rogue detective’s (Dean S. Jagger) obsessive search for the truth behind his parents’ murders leads him to confront the monstrous duo of Queeny (Corey Feldman) and Vince (Richard Wagner), who drag him into a Hellish nightmare he was never prepared for. Lost to an underworld of horrors dating back to the dawn of time, he soon discovers that he is actually the last surviving member of the Nash family, a historic clan of demon hunters. As he is forced to acknowledge a foreboding destiny, he is attacked and brutally left for dead, only to be recovered by Macy (Fernanda Romero), a pure soul who is led by the mysterious Blind Prophet (Malcolm McDowell). At last, Detective Nash is reborn the ultimate killer. Seeking vengeance, he wages a violent war on the Beasts that roam the darkness of this world, finally embracing his true legacy – Corbin Nash, Demon Hunter. Rutger Hauer and Bruce Davison co-star.

Initial Thoughts:

I want to start out by saying that this is not necessarily what most consider horror. Does that make it bad? No. But if you go with that expectation, you will be disappointed. Directed by Ben Jagger and co-written by himself and his brother, Dean, who also starred, the film is a modern crime noir flick. While it may be lacking elements in the story or perhaps has a story that has been done before, Corbin Nash has a lot of great action, and there are some fun, gory parts. Dean S. Jagger has great action star qualities, which brought a slick performance to the film. Malcolm McDowell (Rob Zombie’s Halloween, A Clockwork Orange) provides the narration, as well as portraying the Blind Prophet. The movie also includes a brief appearance by Rutger Hauer (The Hitcher 1986, Buffy the Vampire Slayer 1992). However, the real question that everyone asks is, how did Corey Feldman do at portraying a transvestite vampire?

Corey Feldman as Queeny in Corbin Nash

At first, the acting seemed forced. Then again, this may have just been me not knowing what to expect. In my mind, Corey Feldman will always be the characters in his ’80s films. As I continued to watch Feldman though, I realized that he gave a solid and believable performance. He ended up portraying Queeny fantastically! While some of the story may seem same old, same old, the action in this film is well played out. It is fast-paced, and there is some gore to satisfy that thirst. There is a lot of potential for further projects from the Jagger Brothers, which you can see that from this film.

Final Thoughts:

I enjoyed Corbin Nash. While the story may be trite to some, there are some appreciable performances and action to keep you entertained. This is a dark, gritty crime noir film. Within the seemingly same old story, there is some uniqueness to it. It is worth checking out Corey Feldman in a role you wouldn’t expect him to be in. I am looking forward to more from the Jagger Brothers in the future. The film is set to release in Theaters, VOD, and Digital HD on April 20, 2018.
