I love a robbery gone bad film and The Owners may just be the best one yet. It’s the perfect twisted thriller with great performances and beautiful imagery!
The film was directed by The Forest’s (2017) Julius Berg (read our interview with him here) who co-wrote the film with Matthieu Gompel (The Dream Kids). It stars Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones, The New Mutants), Sylvester McCoy (The Hobbit franchise, Doctor Who), Jake Curran (Spotless, Stardust), Ian Kenny (Solo: A Star Wars Story, Sing Street), Andrew Ellis (Teen Spirit, This Is England),and Rita Tushingham (The Pale Horse, Vera).
Synopsis for The Owners
A group of friends think they found the perfect easy score – an empty house with a safe full of cash. But when the elderly couple that lives there comes home early the tables are suddenly turned. As a deadly game of cat and mouse ensues the would-be thieves are left to fight to save themselves from a nightmare they could never have imagined.
As I mentioned in previous articles, this film started out like many other run-of-the-mill thrillers, where a robbery goes horribly bad, but this film stepped it up a notch. In many ways, this film is comparable to 2016’s Don’t Breathe (read our review here). I personally enjoyed it much more though!
This film has great performances, especially by Maisie Williams. She is such a little badass and continues to prove how versatile she is. I loved her character in this film. She’s strong, brave, and willing to do anything it takes to survive.
There’s oodles of blood and gore throughout the film, much more than I thought there would be – so that’s always awesome. Some of the twists weren’t mindblowing and very much expected while others were absolutely insane. I loved the mix and it kept me on my toes! The Owners DVD and Blu-Ray including a special bonus feature of the making of the film, for a closer inside look!
Final Thoughts
