With the sixth season of American Horror Story finally airing, what a perfect time to take a look back at the previous seasons! Each season, all 5 of them, brings us a new bizarre plot-line with unique characters (although different, they often come with familiar faces), and a crazy ending.
There’s definitely no denying the fact that some of the seasons rank higher than the others. Usually, it just depends on the person and their preferences, and each fan has a different reason on why or why not they love one more than the other. On that note, here is our official ranking of the American Horror Story seasons!
Although some people really loved Hotel, I just couldn’t get into it. I thought the first episode was promising, but with each episode, I lost more and more interest. I think part of it was the fact that this was the first season without Jessica Lange and because of that it felt like something was missing. I think Lady Gaga did a great job with her role as The Countess, but overall there weren’t many characters that left a lasting impression. However, they did deliver blood and gore way more than ever before and that’s always fun!
I love witches. So when I heard about Coven coming out I was super excited! It was very promising in the beginning. The newbie witches each had their own special powers and some of them were pretty cool: for example, Queenie, played by Gabourey Sidibe, was a human voodoo doll. How freaking awesome is that? I loved seeing the witches grow into their powers, but some of the side stories seemed pointless and this was my least favorite role of Evan Peters. Right away he is turned into a zombie/Frankenstein creature. He was still adorable, but like most fans, I wanted a bigger role for him. We’re also introduced to the Voodoo Queen, played by Angela Bassett ,and Madame Delphine LaLaurie, played by Kathy Bates, both actresses have become regulars on American Horror Story.
American Horror Story: Freak Show
Everyone was pumped up for Freak Show and it was exciting to see all of our favorite actors from past seasons play Freaks. The season started out fantastically: The Freaks, Dandy, and Twisty all had fantastic story-lines. It had so many fun characters, just like in Season 1 and 2, and it was enjoyable to learn their history and watch the characters develop. However, when they killed off Twisty (John Carroll Lynch) early off in the season it was disappointing because he really brought something to the story. Dandy played by Finn Wittrock was an interesting character that helped keep the show alive. You loved him and wanted to strangle him all at the same time. But one of my favorite characters was Neil Patrick Harris as Chester Creb the magician. It was awesome seeing him in this type of role and he excelled in it. Also, Pepper is back from Season 2 and I love how they connected it – hopefully we get to see more of that since allegedly all of the American Horror Story seasons are connected in one way or another.
When Asylum first aired I didn’t care for it. But when I had the opportunity to binge watch it on Netflix, it became one of my all-time favorites. Sometimes American Horror Story can get carried away with too many stories, creating a melting pot type of situation, but for Asylum it works wonders. All of the stories connect well and serve a purpose. I think this season has the most horror elements out and evil characters. Plus, who can forget the name game dance scene (a glimpse of it can be seen in the gif above)? That was such a great moment, a bunch of inpatients dancing around to that song. One of my favorite characters of this season was Shachath aka The Angel of Death played by Frances Conroy. I thought she was amazing and her huge black wings were a wonder to behold. My other favorite characters were Bloody Face played by Zachary Quinto and the evil Santa Claus aka Leigh Emerson played by Ian McShane.
American Horror Story: Murder House
I’m pretty sure Murder House will always be my favorite season of American Horror Story. I loved everything about it… every single thing. It was just a good story: In hopes to start over, a family moves into a new home. Soon after weird and bizarre things happen one after another and they discover they’re living in the famous “murder house.” Plus, we were introduced to so many wonderful characters played by actors that have continued to play a different character in each season including Sarah Paulson, Denis O’Hare, Jessica Lange, Lily Rabe, Frances Conroy, Taissa Farmiga, Zachary Quinto, Jamie Brewer, Dylan McDermott, Connie Britton, Ben Woolf, and of course the amazing Evan Peters. Let’s be serious for a second… Evan is 95 percent of the reason fans continue to watch each season, I mean just look at those dimples!
Well, there you have it folks, our ranking of the all the American Horror Story seasons thus far minus the newest one that is currently airing. I know everyone has a different opinion on this, so be sure to let us know how you would rank them!
