Aaron W. Bennett’s ‘JOKERS WILD’ (2025) – Review

Horror fans have been given a gift. The gift is one horror movie icon, making his dream come true. Aaron W. Bennett’s new short film, Jokers Wild casts the man that should have played this character once before, but never made it look this good. David Howard Thornton’s name is already legendary in the horror genre. Some may disagree, but others wait in line for three hours just for 5 minutes of his time.

The delivery of this movie is completely intense. It’s honestly a nonstop feeling of awe watching this come together, in 12 minutes, I was left full.

Synopsis

Joker has finally set his trap in unthinkable and gory ways. What happens when he finally catches the dynamic duo?

The Rundown

I have seen many forms of the clown prince of crime. Honestly? The reality-based portrayals don’t thrill me at all. Jokers Wild moves in the acting skill we see from Jack Nicholson, there has to be a comical side instead of dark and dreary. The Joker is one of the most involved characters to portray. You have to feel it inside, or it’s just going to be depressing. We first saw David Howard Thornton portray the character in Nightwing Escalation (2016) and he portrayed a very real joker and how much of a madman this clown really is. Jokers Wild leaves no stone unturned as you watch your dynamic duo pushed to the edge and more.

The film holds no punches when it comes to gore and splatter, it’s also there. In a funny way that excites me, Batman has like a million enemies, so I don’t see how they needed each other a whole lot. Why not just end the duo? Maybe do it slowly. I won’t spoil anything, but you may lose your lunch. It also may leave you completely depressed and distant from the Batman universe. It only leads people further away.

However, the saving grace is the man behind Art the Clown. I have to admit it is really weird hearing his voice after knowing how he plays his characters. It’s all out of pure love. Personally? I wish we had more of these movies where the good guy doesn’t win. We all know comics and how there are a million different ways characters die off. I have to say that if this is the last Joker portrayal I ever see, I would be humbled.

The Hero We Need

You can only root for the hero in your favorite comics. It’s often unheard of to like the villain, however; with the Joker character, everyone wants to see him win. It’s as campy and brutal as you would think. Also, let’s face it, this Joker mask is terrifying, what’s even more terrifying, is watching him act this out. You can always believe that David Howard Thornton is going to bring his best game. You can also tell in someone’s eyes if they are enjoying what they do in movies. David is such an animated person and well, geeky like the rest of us. You almost want to laugh until the mood becomes “WTF” Jokers Wild moves swiftly into your brain.

In The End

I was very impressed here, and you could also say I am a fanboy of David Howard Thornton. However, I don’t have to tell myself that this is only “half decent” because of an actor I happen to like. It’s about how you portray an iconic character, and you can still enjoy it thoroughly. It’s this passion that makes you want to see an actor time and time again. The movie filled every little enjoyment void after a bad day. To me, that is what horror is supposed to do.
