There is nothing quite like Grind metal. I love grind/death/goregrind/thrash/black/tech whatever and this time of the year I love a little Christmas cheer shaken into my grind, not stirred. VHS definitely shake the shit out of you this holiday season with their latest ep simply titled A Very Merry VHS Xmas.
I stumbled upon this gem on my Facebook news feed. Indie director Brad Twigg (Wrestlemassacre, Killer Campout, Fiendish Fables, House Of Profane) posted the release. I was not aware VHS were involved with Twigg’s films and I certainly was not aware that VHS hail from Canada like myself, Thunder Bay Ontario to be exact.
You can check this 8 track ep on Bandcamp at vhshorror.bandcamp.com and purchase it for a measly 5 bucks Canadian, that’s like $1 U.S., isn’t it? If you love Christmas horror and death/grind then you cannot go wrong with this release. VHS cover all bases here with an intro from the infamous Silent Night, Deadly Night.
The second song from A Very Merry VHS Xmas is Jack Frost. It is based on the hilarious b-movie horror flick which you need to see if you haven’t. Jack Frost the killer snowman fucks, hacks and slashes his way through various victims. Vinegar Syndrome had a beautiful lenticular cover Blu-ray available. Song 3 is a great little Christmas ditty titled Jingle Holocaust and it’s catchy and memorable as hell. &Ho, ho, ho, hurry up and die. The last victim dead and you’ll hear from the sky…Merry Deathmas to all and to all a good night!
Song 4 features a sample from the underrated U.K. Christmas slasher classic Don’t Open Till Christmas. Song 5 is based on the Gremlins movie which is one of my personal favorite more family-friendly holiday horror epics. Song six simply titled Revenge has Santa on a shotgun justice escapade. Song 6 is inspired by Bob Clarks (R.I.P.) original Canadian slasher classic Black Christmas. Finally, the band closes with a devious outro to keep you terrified into the new year.
Support some real authentic Christmas grind this holiday season to go with your whiskey and wine to help you make it through the holiday season. While you’re at it, check out VHS’s other material on Bandcamp because it’s all equally as good and worth your time and hard-earned dollars. Seasons beatings and deck the halls with bowels of holly.
