I want to play a game. If you have Monopoly in mind, think again. Chutes and ladders? Hell no. A puzzle? You are getting warmer. Give up? Well, you have just lost the game to PopHorror’s Villain of the Week: Jigsaw. That is quite alright though. Most of his games cannot be won. However, if you are still alive and have all of your limbs intact, I’d call that a win. Jigsaw’s games typically revolve around making hard choices. Thank goodness it was easy to choose him as Villain of the Week. Death didn’t sound too appealing! Join us in congratulating Jigsaw!
THE ROAD TO BECOMING A VILLAIN
Villains are formed for various reasons. Jigsaw, also known as John Kramer, was a civil engineer before the dark path called his name. Unfortunately, he developed a frontal lobe tumor that was deemed inoperable. Thoughts of suicide reared their ugly head and Kramer attempted to end it all. Luckily, he survived while growing a brand new appreciation for life. Unluckily, he decided to teach uninspired individuals a deadly lesson. What extreme lengths would you endure to stay alive? Live or die, make your choice.
CATCH PHRASES
When Jigsaw speaks, we know and understand that we better listen up! In school, we are taught to follow directions. If Jigsaw’s precise directions are not followed, dire consequences will ensue. Let’s take a look back at some of his best speaking moments!
“Hello. I want to play a game.”
“Death is a surprise party. Unless, of course, you’re already dead on the inside.”
“When you are in hell, only the devil can help you out.”
“Most people are so ungrateful to be alive, but not you, not any more…”
“You’re probably wondering where you are. I’ll tell you where you might be. You might be in the room you die in.”
“How much blood will you shed to stay alive?”
“We are all the same color on the inside.”
“GAME OVER!”
EPIC KILLS
Jigsaw is best known for his meticulous system of torturing people. Each kill is set up as a “game” whereas the person in question chooses their fate. A hand may be lost in the process but, they just might end up valuing their life a little more. That is all Jigsaw asks for. Here are a few of his most memorable kills.
The Pendulum – Saw V
Who could ever forget the opening scene to Saw V? I sure didn’t. The scene opens with a man strapped down to a table. What is that hanging above him? None other than a swinging bladed pendulum. He does have the option of crushing his hands to prevent it from slicing and dicing. Let’s be real though. We knew this story would not end well. If you haven’t seen this film, I do not recommend eating anything while watching.
Love Triangle – Saw 3D
Cheaters beware. Jigsaw has stumbled across the perfect punishment for you. In this epic kill scene, a woman is tied to the ceiling. The game is designed for both of her lovers to either kill each other or kill her. Sounds like a no-brainer to me. However, the decision must be made in front of a live audience of hundreds of people. You see, they are in a window display case. Let’s just say they receive quite the show. Three really is a crowd.
A Sticky Situation – Saw 3D
Imagine waking up glued to the driver seat of your car. Your significant other is tied under the wheels. Two of your best friends are chained to the front and back. If you do not rip the skin off of your own back to suspend the wheels, they will all die. Personally, this is my favorite Jigsaw kill to date. It’s gory, suspenseful, and a clever way to bite the dust in a horror film.
I Chopped My Foot Off – Saw
Ok, I know what you are thinking. This is not an epic kill scene. Maybe not but, it is an epic fucking scene. This poor soul was chained in a room whereas he is supposed to saw off his own foot in order to save his family and leave. Yes, he actually does it. Now, if I chopped off my foot, I would bleed out and die. This dude crawls his way out of the dungeon and his future remains uncertain. Bad ass.
Jigsaw is what I would call highly intelligent. Every plan he has is thought out well in advance. If a problem arises during one of his excursions, he already has the answer to cover his tracks. He does not care about the consequences of his actions because he is dying. It sickens him how people take life for granted. He has no choice but they do. Speaking of choices, who would you like to see as the next Villain of the Week? Choose wisely.
