With E3 2018 right around the corner, the time for speculation and predictions is now! Will we see something totally unexpected? Will we finally get news on games that are so anxiously anticipated? We asked some of our writers what they think will be shown at E3 2018. Check out what they had to say below, and stay tuned for all of our coverage on the event!
I love this time of year and doing predictions is always fun. For my predictions, I’m going with ones that will more than likely be at E3, and then I will have a few predictions that are just pipe dreams. Without further ado, here is my list.
First one I am predicting is that we will see a trailer and get a release date for Doom 2. With the success of the first one, it’s a no brainer that we will see something about it at Bethesda’s conference. I also predict that they will show a completely new game from Bethesda Game Studios, which will be a massive open-world RPG that is not Fallout or The Elder Scrolls. Speaking of The Elder Scrolls, I predict we will see a teaser trailer for The Elder Scrolls VI at the end of the conference just to let fans know they have something in the works.
Now, Sony has pretty much shown their hand with what will be at the conference, but there is still space for a couple announcements. This one is my pipe dream. I hope and predict that they will announce a new Twisted Metal that will go back to couch co-op! I also believe they will announce the latest sequel of a beloved franchise from Capcom, and that is Devil May Cry 5! It’s been a long time since we’ve had a DMC game. and I believe now is the perfect time. Before I go, I will put out one more pipe dream of mine, and that is that Konami will make a rare appearance and announce a new 2D side scrolling Castlevania game along the lines of Symphony of the Night. — Scott Crawford
These are my E3 predictions for 2018. Let’s start with Rockstar Games. It seems that some people missed out on the fact that Rockstar doesn’t need to showcase their games. Grand Theft Auto V is still at full price in some stores. It’s one of the biggest game franchises ever. In fact, Rockstar Games doesn’t generally attend E3 or showcase their games. I’d bet good money they don’t turn up for this one. Moving on, Halo 6 is almost definitely going to be announced this E3, because if they don’t, their franchise is in trouble. Halo 5 divided fans. 343 Industries have their work cut out for them. My fingers are crossed, but I’m dubious.
Now on to Ubisoft. It’s been a good few months for Ubisoft, with 3 strong AAA game titles in South Park, Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry all doing well. If the leaks are anything to go by, they have a bunch more coming. Sam Fisher was recently seen in Splinter Cell gear in Ghost Recon Wildlands, and now we’re hearing that a new Splinter Cell game is in the works. There’s also been talk of a new Assassin’s Creed title. My personal pipe dream would be a new Prince of Persia game, but that would be like asking for Half Life 3.
Finally, let’s talk Bethesda. Fans have been after a new Elder Scrolls game since Skyrim launched, and were displeased with Bethesda’s E3 2017 showcase, from a new Elder Scrolls game to a remastered Fallout 3, Fallout 76 which is a real thing now, and a secret IP set in space. I think we will see that secret IP this year. It’s time. — Ruben Shaw
I expect that we will hear more on The Last of Us 2 from Naughty Dog, whether it’s a new trailer or some actual gameplay. Sony may also discuss the future of God of War. I anticipate that Capcom will update us on the Resident Evil 2 remake, and after hinting at it, a remake of Dino Crisis. I know several people that are crossing their fingers for that one. Square Enix already announced their Final Fantasy XV updates at PAX East, so hopefully we will finally get a release date for the Final Fantasy VII remake.
Ubisoft will show more on Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey with a release date. Bethesda will fill us in more on Fallout 76 and the game mechanics. I’m hoping that we will hear more from Kojima Productions on Death Stranding, since we got a long and complicated trailer at E3 2017. Rockstar will most likely show actual gameplay for the upcoming Red Dead Redemption II, and possibly announce Grand Theft Auto VI. While I don’t put too much hope into these, I’d like to see updates on Dead Island 2 or Left 4 Dead 3, but those might be just as undead as the zombies in those games. — D.D. Crowley
Most of my predictions revolve around Square Enix and what they decide to do at E3 2018. First off, I’m fully expecting them to give a release date for the long awaited Kingdom Hearts 3. They’ve been saying for awhile now that early June is when we’ll get a release date, and June 11th seems like the perfect day for that. This is also when I expect we’ll finally get an English trailer for the game. I’m expecting to see more of Shadow of the Tomb Raider. On a smaller scale, I’m really hoping they announce a remastered version of Final Fantasy VIII for the PS4, similar to what they did with Final Fantasy IX. Finally, from the Square Enix press conference, I expect to see a trailer for the Final Fantasy VII remake along with a release date.
From Sony, I expect that they’ll show some gameplay from the upcoming Spider-Man game, along with more from Days Gone. This is a bit of a stretch here, but I think they saw how successful the latest Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy was and we’ll get an announcement of a new installment in the Crash Bandicoot series. I’m also anticipating that they’ll either announce the ability to change PSN ID’s or that they’ve implemented a backwards compatible program similar to Xbox’s. Speaking of Xbox, I think we’ll see Gears of War 5, which I would be all about. I enjoy the series and want to see more. Microsoft has also announced they’ll have a JRPG presence at their conference, so here’s hoping for Lost Odyssey 2. Finally, I think Nintendo finally announces what the new Yoshi game is, along with announcing what the latest Fire Emblem game will be. — Matt Stumpf
