PopHorror Let's Get Scared
This is my first time reviewing films for the Blood in the Snow Canadian Film Festival. It is also my first time reviewing short films. It has been a total blast! It is amazing to watch a story developed in such a short amount of time. I had the opportunity to visit Poppy Seed Place and review Greg Kovac’s short film Fun. Is this short film any fun? Read on to find out!
Synopsis:
Anna and Ellery discover different interpretations of the word “fun”.
Post-Life Productions presents Fun written and directed by Greg Kovacs. It stars Tiffany Hunter and D. Campbell MacKinlay. In this film, we visit Poppy Seed Place. It is here we meet Anna. Anna has just finished untangling her jump rope when her friend Ellery joins her. Anna asks if Ellery would like to play jump rope? Ellery eagerly agrees. As Ellery gets excited to play, he soon learns that Anna’s definition of fun is not going to be any fun for Ellery.
The acting is superb. Tiffany Hunter does a fantastic job of playing Anna. Likeable, cheery and friendly. She nails her character and will remind you of your childhood when you watched your favorite kid show on PBS. Even when she is evil, she is so pleasant doing it. Which is disturbing but brilliant.
Final Thoughts:
This film will definitely leave you a bit uncomfortable. You probably wouldn’t want to visit Poppy Seed Place. That is, of course, not a bad thing as we are talking horror. It is fun in a sick, almost satirical, way. The film will disturb you, parents you may have thought some darker thoughts when your kids watch these programs. Most likely nothing like this! I thoroughly enjoyed this short. If you have a chance to see this one, please do!
