Most of the time, short films kind of bore me because they move so slowly.Often times I cannot, and still can’t, piece them together. Simon Says was definitely on a different spectrum of killer clown movies (except Terrifier). Simon Says is a project that moves quickly, but it does make you give a new perspective on short horror. It also gave minimal but effective gore.
Let’s get into the review.
Synopsis
A group of friends gathers for a party when a mysterious entertainer named Simon arrives to host a game of Simon Says. What happens next make the party goers fight for their life, as the game quickly becomes more violent by the minute.
Clowning Around
What did me in was the first scene and kill; I have to admit that is hilarious; however, I was desensitized at a very young age, so I totally laugh at memorable kill scenes. Simon Says did just that in 20 minutes. It feels like you are on a thrill ride with the screaming and emphasizing that they were next no matter what. If you lose their game, Simon makes sure you won’t do it again. The setting is as funny as the intro and acting, and I love that fact.
Simon Says shows that you don’t need too much gore to make a movie; I politely disagree; that was my gripe. As a gore hound, I didn’t process it while watching this film. In twenty minutes, the game becomes more and more based on situations that will leave anxiety in your gut. The acting reminds me of an early 90s straight-to-video movie I miss so much. Now it is straight to Tubi, instead of physical media, and it is really irritating to spend 20 bucks a month on streaming apps that don’t change their lineup; only Tubi holds the championship belt. It is always a deep dive the further you go—shoutout to Tubi for being so awesome.

And Then There Is Only One
I left extremely satisfied and waiting for more. As the ending was shown, give us another one! I can say that is one hope of mine because, while being totally weirded out, you are left thinking Simon isn’t that bad. There were barely any scene changes, which I like about that idea. Simon Says left me wondering about how to make it tasteful and still eerie; I just wish it would show the gore instead of holding back. The film deserves a lot of praise and shows you that sawed-off shotguns have the ‘boom stick’ way of shooting. Simons gave no f****s, and as soon as it started, until his game was done and whoever played this vicious game of broken fingers and headshots survived the night, they were free to leave.
In the End
You can find this film on Tubi, and if I were you, I would act fast, run home from work to enjoy it. Prepare for a lot of screaming from overacting, and still they gave it a shot of perfectly annoying. If you decide to watch this little 20-minute film, I won’t talk to you ever again. That’s how serious I am about this film. Simon is absolutely terrifying; they pulled that costume and makeup, and what spawned was an alter ego.
Simon Says is a film I was happy to watch, and I fully enjoyed it; everyone involved made this magic happen.
