Kid Dreadful: An Interview With the Princess of Cosplay

Regular attendees of horror conventions should know the name. Coral, AKA Kid Dreadful, is an up-and-coming cosplayer who is making waves in the horror scene. She and her family put in a lot of time and work to create. Coral has some of the greatest characters known to horror. She also always finds creepy settings where she can shine.

We had the chance to sit down with her and talk all about how she came to be.

Kid Dreadful

PopHorror: What inspired the idea for Kid Dreadful?

Kid Dreadful: The idea wasn’t really inspired by anything in particular. It was a creative outlet. Initially, I just liked dressing up in costumes and doing my makeup like scary characters. We made a page to share my cosplays, and it took off!

PopHorror: How long have you been doing cosplay?

Kid Dreadful: I’ve been doing cosplay for almost 5 years.

A take on the little pale girl

PopHorror: I started really young with horror. Are you allowed to watch all of the movies you cosplay?

Kid Dreadful: I watch a lot of horror movies. Some movies are too long for me to watch every part, so my parents will have me leave the room or skip over those scenes.

An Unhappy Meal

PopHorror: Do you design your own costumes and makeup?

Kid Dreadful: Many of my cosplays are based on known characters, so I try to stay close to their look while adding some of my twists. I like creating my own characters, makeup, and costumes because I like using my imagination to make them look just how I want. usually, Don’t design anything ahead of time. I just kind of start with a few pieces of materials and build from there until I’m happy with how it looks.

PopHorror: Do you attend any other events besides horror-themed ones?

Kid Dreadful: We mostly attend horror events, but we have recently branched out to Festivals, paranormal events, and Comic conventions.

Taking on Regan Macneil

PopHorror: How long does it take to transform into these awesome cosplays?

Kid Dreadful: It varies how long it takes me to fully get in costume. Most of my cosplays can be put together in an hour or less. So far, the cosplay that took the longest was Pinhead from Hellraiser. It took 4 hours to apply the makeup and almost 2 hours to remove it.

PopHorror: What has been your favorite cosplay so far?

Kid Dreadful: It’s hard to pick a favorite, but I think I’d have to say The Pale Girl from Terrifier 2, Ronald McDonald, and my most recent project, Circus Baby from Five Nights At Freddy’s.

PopHorror: Do you travel a lot for conventions?

Kid Dreadful: We do travel a good bit for conventions. I’d love to travel even more, though.

Mummy’s Little Monster

PopHorror: Have you met a lot of your cosplay characters in person?

Kid Dreadful: I have met a lot of actors in person. I love talking with them and asking questions about movies they’ve been in, SFX makeup, and all sorts of cool things. Over the years, I’ve learned some pretty cool tricks and movie facts from them.

Hard at work

PopHorror: What would you say to someone who may be afraid to cosplay?

Kid Dreadful: If someone is afraid to try cosplaying, I recommend cosplaying a masked character first! It’s even better if you choose a character that does not speak. You’ll still be able to join in the fun and won’t have to worry about speaking as much or at all! Pretty soon, you’ll be having a blast and forgetting all about your fears.

We thank Coral for her time. You can find her on most social media platforms, such as Facebook @ kid dreadful and Instagram @kid_dreadful
