Everwinter Night

‘EVERWINTER NIGHT’ (2023) – Movie Review

When I watched the trailer for Adam Newman’s Everwinter Night, I was intrigued immediately. I am a huge fan of horror set in remote locations. Add in some life long friendships, some comedy and the mystery of wealthy men throwing a huge shin dig, I’m in.

Synopsis

Lifelong best friends, Maddy and V, set out for a relaxing vacation. When their old college clique hijack their plans, V finds herself at a remote ski lodge where a group of mysterious wealthy men throw a celebration century in the making.

My Thoughts

The plot of the movie is rather simple. V (Victoria Mirrer) and Maddy (McKenna Parsons), life long friends go on a nice relaxing getaway. However those plans quickly change as a couple of Maddy’s friends drag them out of their relaxing weekend and take them to a fully-comped luxury getaway. The home is owned by a “cult” of rich men, who clearly have other intentions. V is wise to this and suspects the intentions are not good. V tries to pry Maddy from the clutches of the leader of this “cult” Erik (played by co-writer Chris Goodwin). She enlists the help of the property owner Jack (Jamie Dufault). Things however, begin to spin out of control and the girls are left to escape whatever plans this “cult” has for them.

This movie is so good. It exceeded any expectation I had for it. The movie is smart not only in the writing of the script but the performances. They just knock it out of the park. This is a movie, you can definitely sit down to watch and be drawn in immediately. It has drops of humor sprinkled throughout, that are genuine laugh out loud moments. I didn’t expect it to go where it did, definitely kept my interest throughout. The ending it totally wild and some definite gore and the payoff is worth the slow burn style of this story.

I wouldn’t say this is a complaint, but if I had to nit pick about this movie, it would be the pacing. It could have been about 10 minutes shorter, but that is a nit pick and I enjoyed this movie regardless.

Final Thoughts

Everwinter Night is both a well made and performed movie. The actors are fantastic. The action and in particular the end is superb. This isn’t your average indie film, it is impressive and I believe horror fans should definitely check this one out. If you are an indie film fan and/or a “cult” film fan this one is for you.
