Ice Nine Kills’ First Annual Silver Scream Con 2022: Music, Horror, Gore And More! – Event Review

This year marks the first annual Silver Scream Con, created by heavy metal horror band Ice Nine Kills. This is also the first time New England has seen a metal/horror convention since we lost our beloved Rock and Shock back in 2019. Taking place at the Doubletree Boston North Shore Hotel in Danvers, MA, from August 26-28, 2022, Silver Scream combined celebrities, music, vendors, and cosplayers to put on one hell of a show.

From the Silver Scream website:

ICE NINE KILLS put their bloody fingerprints all over THE SILVER SCREAM CONVENTION, a brand-new weekend of macabre celebration for genre fiends set in the band’s home state of Massachusetts. The band Kerrang! calls “horrorcore icons” pay homage to the celluloid classics that first possessed singer Spencer Charnas as a kid on their No. 1 Billboard Hard Rock albums The Silver Scream and The Silver Scream 2: Welcome to Horrorwood. In 2022, that demented love blossoms into an INK-curated horror convention! At the first-ever SILVER SCREAM CON, movie lovers, casual fans, and INK’s beloved “psychos” will chop it up in August with the stars of legendary horror franchises, including meet-and-greets, photo-ops, cosplay, an INK concert, and MANY MORE surprises.

Ice Nine Kills member Spencer Charnas said:

“The Silver Scream Con will bring horror fanatics and INK fans from all over the world together to celebrate their love of on-screen slaughter. This is the chance for our loyal psychos to not only interact with the band, but to meet the stars of the very films that our music pays tribute to.”

Check out the guest list!

Unfortunately, a last minute filming schedule change had Scream’s Skeet Ulrich unable to attend, but luckily for fans, the film’s own Randy, Jamie Kennedy, was able to attend in his place.

I attended the event on Saturday the 27th along with my daughter, a huge INK fan. The event itself was hugely popular with guests. Many people were there for Ice Nine Kills’ Spencer Charnas and his fiancé, Nadia Teichmann, who spent the weekend greeting both music and horror fans like. There were plenty for the celebrity and music guests as well, but somehow, the lines were rather short, a welcome advantage with this con. My daughter and I got the chance to meet and chat with several familiar faces.

My daughter, Lilly, with Miko Hughes, OG Pet Semetery Gage who came full circle by playing the truck driver who ran down the little boy in Ice Nine Kill’s ‘Funeral Derangements’ video
‘The Mist’s’ Chris Owen and I smiling despite the fact that he still hasn’t answered my Rhode Island Comic Con question from last year: what two films would you show for a double bill at the drive-in?
Kane Hodder and I after discussing a project we’re working on together. But my lips are sealed!
My daughter and horrorcore duo Twiztid, Jamie Madrox and Monoxide Child, who were both thrilled to finally have another music and horror convention to crash.

However, the place was packed, which was no surprise really considering the vendors and celebs were all packed into one of the hotel’s ballrooms. Luckily, the panels and costume contests took place in another area.

Even the cosplay was off the charts. Even Speedo Michael Myers was there for the party!

My favorite cosplayer of the night. How can you not love her?

As is often the case, the fans attending this horror con were wonderful and friendly, a shock to most people who don’t follow either genre. I swear, the nicest people I’ve ever met are horror and heavy metal fans.

There were some pretty cool photo opportunities at Silver Scream Con as well.

Frankenstein’s monster’s chair!

The vendors were well prepared. We were able to pick up some pretty cool merch while we were there, always a plus. Not pictured is the wickedly spicy Plague Doctor soap from Wolf Moon Vegan Body Products that I snatched up. There was some gorgeously gory makeup from Demented FX. And it was good to see New England Horror Writers back on the road again!

Sculpture from Wicked Wall Masks

There was even an entire table dedicated to Ice Nine Kill’s graphic novel, Inked In Blood, where, to the surprise of no one, INK’s Spencer Charnas is once again accused of killing his fiancé, Nadia. But did he?

Saturday night at Silver Scream Con wrapped with an intimate concert from Ice Nine Kills and Twiztid. What a great way to end the night! I honestly cannot wait for next year’s show. Bring on the music, horror, gore and more!
