The American Genre Film Archive sends word they’re forming a partnership with Shout! Factory. The two film super powers will join forces to distribute 16 Werner Herzog films theatrically. They’re also distributing a huge selection of Shout! Factory films across the United States this Summer. It’s a great collection!

The American Genre Film Archive, the largest non-profit genre film archive and distributor in the world, is excited to announce new additions to their ongoing theatrical partnership with Shout! Factory, a multi-platform media company. AGFA will distribute 16 restorations from incomparable filmmaker Werner Herzog — as well as 75 additional titles from Shout! Factory’s cult classic movie library — to theaters in 2021. This is the latest collaboration between AGFA and Shout! Factory following their theatrical distribution partnership in 2019.From FITZCARRALDO to NOSFERATU THE VAMPYRE, Werner Herzog has blurred the line between fiction, documentary, and genre, creating a body of work that has established him as one of the most daring and visionary filmmakers of our lifetime. It’s no surprise that French New Wave legend Francois Truffaut once called Herzog “the greatest filmmaker alive today.”“Werner Herzog as a person is extremely well known and loved, but he is first and foremost a filmmaker — one of the greatest,” said AGFA’s Executive Director Alicia Coombs. “It’s an honor to work with Shout! Factory to bring Herzog’s catalog back to theaters so audiences can see his films as they’re meant to be seen.”

In addition, AGFA has curated 75 new titles from Shout’s movie catalog to reissue in theaters throughout the year. These movies include cult fan favorites such as THE LAWNMOWER MAN, early queer cinema triumph THE LEATHER BOYS, deep-cut horror blasts like Carol Frank’s SORORITY HOUSE MASSACRE, John Carpenter’s DARK STAR, and seminal Black cinema milestones such as TNT JACKSON.

Very cool! I wonder what it would take to get a Deathstalker / Deathstalker 2 double feature going at the local AMC? I think I may have to contact booking and find out!
