PopHorror Let's Get Scared
Climate Of The Hunter is a new horror film directed by Mickey Reece (Mono 2017) and stars Ginger Gilmartin (Fingerprints 2006).
Film Synopsis:
Two sisters, Alma and Elizabeth, along with a dog who’s described as a “philosopher,” have come to Alma’s remote house to reconnect with Wesley after twenty years. Alma is recently divorced, Elizabeth is a workaholic in Washington, D.C., while Wesley lives in Paris dealing with a wife recently struck with a fatal disease. When the three come together for dinner it has all the makings of a lovely adult melodrama about loneliness, and the desire to connect and share our lives with someone… but we must add to the mix one otherworldly piece of information: Wesley could be a vampire.
My favorite part about Climate Of The Hunter is Ben Hall’s (Shifter 2020) performance. He is fabulous as Wesley and does a good job keeping the pace of the film. His scariest moments aren’t when he is the vampire, which is great. But he is terrifying just trying to be normal; I was always wondering when the change would come.
The delivery and chemistry between the actors is flawless, especially at the dinner table scene. Each actor’s movements and lines are as natural as can be; however, Hall stole the show. He is deliberate and creepy and it works so well with the tone of the film. Hall was a great choice for this character; he plays a very sophisticated vampire.
Mickey Reece does a wonderful job at capturing the essence of a vampire movie. It is dark and cryptic with a level of gothic undertones one could find in a Hammer Horror film. The use of shadows and the lack of music are reminiscent of early Universal monster films. Reece’s decisions makes Climate Of The Hunter a must watch horror film to finish off 2020.
Overall, I love this movie. It has all the makings of a great indie horror film with nods to classic horror movies of the ’30s and ’50s; Climate Of The Hunter is a movie any vampire fan would love. Climate Of The Hunter is coming to Video On-Demand and Digital on January 12, 2021.
