Showing this weekend at the 2019 Blood in the Snow Film Festival in Toronto, Canada, is a short film by Kyle Martellacci (The Scarlet Vultures 2018) called She Must Vanish. The film stars Anne-Carolyne Binette (Age Of The Living Dead 2018), Renny Jachowicz (Candy Skin 2016), Meri Spencer, (Message From Father 2019) and Monster Pool: Seven Deadly Sins’ (2017) Valerie Taller and Quinn Bennett.
Synopsis:
In a seaside town, residents succumb to the malevolence of a witch, who sets a fury in motion.
She Must Vanish captures your attention immediately from the opening image of young witch Mia (Binette), fingers drenched in blood. She has just killed a man and removed his heart, now confidently drunk on power. She then meets a mysterious woman (Spencer) who warns her that the town she was in has a potentially dangerous reputation. Mia ignores her, confidently striding off to meet her next victim. But she is about to get more than she bargained for.
Overall, She Must Vanish is a great short film. The photography is fantastic, and I adore the gloomy seaside landscape. The gore is plentiful and extremely well done for a film with a low budget.
I felt that Anne-Carolyne Binette had just the right level of cockiness to carry this role off. The other actors seemed dedicated to their roles, but I want to send a shout out to Meri Spencer, who was especially terrific in this!
Any horror fan will be satisfied with this little morsel.
