10). American Psycho
Criticizing American narcissism and dripping with intelligent satire, American Psycho was praised upon its release. Following businessman and serial killer Patrick Bateman, American Psycho shows us a man that has lost his mind and would do anything to remain at the top of the corporate food chain. It inspired a sequel starring Mila Kunis (That 70’s Show) that did not receive the reception it had intended. However, I loved it and it caused me to become a fan of her work.
Initially, I watched this film because it was unrated, which at the time was rare, and I wanted to see all the gory goodies. I was 10 years old and it was the first time a horror movie left me feeling disturbed. Obviously, I was too young to get the message behind the madness. Years later I would watch it again, understanding the film’s satire and appreciating it for what it always was.
You could also make a pretty good case for GINGER SNAPS and THE CELL…
