The Madame in Black (2017) Short Film Review – Do You Dare Say Her Name 3 Times?

Last night, I watched a terrifying horror short that actually gave me nightmares. I can honestly say that doesn’t happen too often as I’m not easily frightened, but sure enough, I woke up more than once because of it. So if you’re looking for something to spook you, The Madame in Black is sure to do so. Find out why!

Produced by JLV PicturesThe Madame in Black is directed and written by Jarno Lee VinsenciusThe film stars  Demis Tzivis, Ida Gyllensten, Ellinor RosanderJennica LandénZalma LopezOliver Lopez, and Kase Chlopecki. It has a run time of a little over 20 minutes.

Official Synopsis:

After playing the infamous urban legend game “Madame in Black,” Alex (Tzivis) and his sister, Emma (Gyllensten), experience the wrath of the evil witch Madame in Black.

Wow, this horror short is a rare gem. It completely blew me away with its cinematography, acting, and overall creepy atmosphere. Although it’s not the first urban legend where you say the person’s name 3 times and they will appear, the story stood strong on its own and was more terrifying than most films like it. Plus, it gets double the brownie points for being a witch story. We need more witch films and The Madame in Black proves why.

I thought the acting was exceptionally well done. The brother and sister relationship between Tzivis and Gyllensten felt genuine and you can feel their protection for one another, even more so when one of them is in danger.

The best part, though, is the witch aka Madame in Black. She isn’t on screen much, but that only builds the tension and adrenaline rush as she sneaks up on you after you say her name three times in the mirror. But do you ever get to see her face? You’ll have to find out by watching it!

Final Thoughts:

Overall, The Madame in Black is the perfect creepy witch story and Jarno Lee Vinsencius has a knack for this genre. This is a fun new urban legend that hopefully people will love. Don’t risk facing her… it will be the last thing you do! I give it 5 stars.
