Terry Jarrell’s ‘Harlow’s Haunt’ (2023) Movie Review

Terry Jarrell’s Harlow’s Haunt is a fun ride through some dark scenes. I met Terry Jarell through another project of mine. His love of horror is unmatched by anyone I know, including myself. We talked about his movie, so I sat down to watch it. I was impressed by the quality and passion of the film. Some of the acting was a little much, but that doesn’t bother me. I love independent films like this—no big budget, just pure love. So many of our heroes started on a chance like this.

Harlow Greer with a hospitable heart.

Synopsis

Harlow Greer, played by John Dugan (Texas Chainsaw Massacre 1974), double crosses a mother and son and sells them off to pure evil. Decades later, a group of friends get together on the hunt for a haunted house after reuniting over tragedy. When they arrive and enter the hallowed halls, they are immediately terrorized.

The friends must fight for their lives. The hunt through the house is only the beginning. One by one, they are tortured and taken away from the group. Daring to continue on, the last two members frantically search for a way out. In the end, they don’t know who to trust. Is this the ghost of Harlow Greer? Who will survive the night?

Harlow’s Haunt is the first slasher of the year to suck me in. This isn’t a killer clown or zombie flick; it’s pure terror in the worst way. Harlow’s Haunt impressed me. It’s entertaining, no matter how much the budget was. This film shows how creative you can be with a bunch of props. Harlow’s Haunt is cheesy, and I love cheesy. I will take an independent movie any day over big box office film. I choose to give my attention to the people who make their passions happen by themselves.

Dylan Intriago (‘The Inn’ 2024) and Aimee Rolfsin (‘Halloween Death Walks Among Us’) are about to meet their maker.

Harlow’s Haunt is a great throwback to the glory days of straight-to-video movies. It’s the revival we need, showing that whatever you have, you can make magic out of it. I have always been DIY in all my projects, so I can relate to this film. It’s challenging when it’s just you and your friends trying to make it in the entertainment business. I can’t raise Terry’s vision enough. It deserves that amount of praise because they made a strong team and worked with each other so well, creating a great slasher flick.

Harlow’s Haunt can be found on almost all streaming platforms, including Tubi, Prime, and more. Give yourself a break… sit down, laugh a little, and enjoy this movie for what it is. I promise you won’t be bored or sidetracked. I also promise that everyone worked hard to make this movie a reality. It’s an opinion, but I will always stick up for low-budget movies; those people see a dream and chase it. And I can relate to that.
