I’ve known My Little Miracle‘s George James Fraser for quite awhile now, and one sure thing I can say about him is that he has a brilliantly unique style and vision. That’s why I was I pretty interested in checking out his new horror short, Salt and Iron.
His newest story is a collaboration from Stained Glass and Bath Productions as well as Bald Dog Productions. The cast stars William DeCoff (Brotherhood, Ted) who is a former professional wrestler, Marissa Joy, and Desiree Amber.
Official Synopsis for Salt and Iron:
A fisherman (Decoff) catches more than he can handle when he meets a stranger at the old fishing hole. Will he meet his fate sooner than expected?
If you love stories that contain explicit nudity, oodles of blood, and some human sacrifice… Salt and Iron is for you.
I almost felt bad for the man lead, but who was he kidding. Gorgeous naked women aren’t just hanging out in the woods, waiting for random fishermen to seduce them. Or maybe they are, and I’m just hanging around the wrong fishing holes? Either way, it was a fishy situation, and this guy clearly wasn’t using his head. Or at least not the one that counts.
I have to admit, I loved this convent of women. Very empowering. As a viewer, you’re not quite sure what is going on, as few words are said throughout the short’s runtime. However, there was no question that these ladies meant business. Sacrificial business.
I thought Salt and Iron was beautifully shot, and Fraser was very careful with detail. Although there is a lot of nudity, it is shot tastefully and artistically. Much of this can be accredited to the amazing costume designer, Julianne Morin, as well as the makeup by Tim Buckwaldie and Kellie Wallman.
One of my favorite things about this short is what happened after it was shot. George shared with me the story about how he almost got arrested for making this film, stating:
“We made a sacrifice circle of stones and forgot to clear it when we left. So when a local was out walking her dog the next morning and saw the circle, the pool of blood, and the trail of blood leading into the water, she called the police. The town knew I was working there under the pretense of an “extravagant family reunion photo shoot.” I then had to go to a town hearing, where I had to stand before the entire council and plead my case. They were worried because the town has a history of satanic activity.”
Oops!
Final Thoughts on Salt and Iron:
I always love seeing what George will come up with next, and Salt and Iron didn’t disappoint. I would love to see a full feature from him in the near future, because I’m sure he could do wonders with that. Be sure to stay tuned for more information on George and an upcoming interview about this year’s Happenstance Horror Film Festival, as well!
