‘A Creepshow Holiday Special’ (2020) – Movie Review

Christmas is just around the corner, and if you’re still not in the holiday spirit, I have the perfect remedy for you! A Creepshow Holiday Special is now streaming on Shudder and is the perfect mix of horror, comedy, and a splash of Christmas cheer.

This holiday special was written and directed by Greg Nicotero and based on a short story by J.A. Konrath. It stars Anna Camp (Pitch Perfect, True Blood) and Adam Pally (The Mindy Project).

Synopsis for Creepshow Holiday Special

In this holiday themed “Shapeshifters Anonymous,” fearing he is a murderer, an anxious man searches for answers for his “unique condition” from an unusual support group.

What a great special this was. It was unique, fun, and delightfully bloody. The shapeshifters anonymous group was fantastic and I loved that they all turned into something different. Some parts were over the top but in the best way possible. The witty commentary was excellent and helped keep things light and fun.

All of the performances were great and I loved every single character. Each one brought so much to the film and helped make it that much better. Anna Camp was hands down my favorite, though. This was the perfect role for her. She always plays quirky, naughty, and hilarious with ease and you can’t help but love her.

Viewer beware… during the first half of the film, there’s not much of a Christmasy feel. It’s more about getting to know the characters. However, the last half delivered it to the max with the perfect mix of blood and thrills. I don’t want to spoil anything, so I’ll just say that A Creepshow Holiday Special delivered one of the most badass Santa Clauses I’ve ever seen.

So gather by your Christmas tree, grab your hot chocolate or eggnog, your most comfortable fuzzy socks, and check out A Creepshow Holiday Special on Shudder! The second season of Creepshow is expected to premiere in 2021.
