Shepherd

Movie Review: Russell Owen’s ‘Shepherd’ (2021) Delivers An Unnerving Story That Will Rattle To Your Core!

Darkland Distribution’s new horror film, Shepherd delivers an unnerving story that will rattle to your core. It’s from director Russell Owen (Inmate Zero) and stars Kate Dickie (Game of Thrones TV series), Tom Hughes (The Hollow Crown TV series), Jamie Marie Leary (Traces TV series), and Greta Scacchi (Shattered).

Synopsis for Shepherd

Running from grief after the mysterious death of his wife, Eric Black takes a job as a shepherd. Trapped alone on a majestic weather-beaten island with an ominous secret, one man’s spiraling madness meets a vengeful supernatural force. What starts as the perfect wind-swept escape becomes a race to save his sanity and his life.

Shepherd is a truly terrifying film with a sinister and haunting atmosphere from beginning to end. It’s also heartbreaking. You can see the grief and misery that Eric is going through, and taking on a job away from everything is probably the worse thing he could possibly do. However, nothing could prepare him for the vengeful and mysterious supernatural force that awaits him.

Shepherd

All over the characters and performances are perfect, but Tom Hughes delivers a riveting and emotionally powerful performance that blew me away. His character is broken and you can see the pain and misery written all over his face. Tom manages to bring this character to life despite all the horrors he goes through.

One of the best parts about Shepherd is the emotion-triggering cinematography and eerie imagery. Everything feels dark, cold, depressing, and hopeless despite the beautiful setting and layout. There is a certain scene towards the end that has stuck with me ever since. It’s pure nightmare fuel and set up perfectly.

Beginning today, Shepherd is now available in cinemas in the UK and Ireland. Be sure to check it out and let us know what you think. You won’t be disappointed!
