Bathtub Shark Attack

Madeline Deering’s ‘BATHTUB SHARK ATTACK’ (2023) – Movie Review

NOTE: This review was generated during the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Without the labor of the writers and actors currently on strike, this film wouldn’t exist. PopHorror fully supports the WGA and SAG-AFTRA and their efforts.

Bathtub Shark Attack 2023 is a wildly insane comedy horror film, written and directed by Madeline Deering (Spirit Animal 2020, Trash Removal 2022). This is the first ever shark-centric movie from the aptly named company, NekroShark Films. It’s an insanely original, over-the-top, chum-filled shark fest of a flick. It’s a unique, one-of-a-kind, straight outta the tub SOV (Shot On Video) film that’ll have you laughing until its furiously ferocious cringe-inducing finish. Sharksploitation at its finest!

Here’s a taste of what you’re in for!

Bathtub Shark Attack Synopsis

A young couple moves into a cheap new apartment building and quickly finds themselves the unwilling victims of an ancient evil entity lurking in the water.

It stars Ruby Craft (Hobo Save the World 2022, Bathtub Shark Attack 2023), Ben Dietels (Bergeron Brothers: Wedding Videographers 2021, The Boonies 2021), Lynn Lowery (The Crazies 1973, Shivers 1975), Carly Sonafelt (Shingles 2023, Crackcoon), Keith Monohan (Spirit Animal 2020, Natasha Nighty’s Boudoir of Blood 2 2022), and Madeline Deering (Spirit Animal 2020, Natasha Nighty’s Boudoir of Blood 2 2022).

The film also stars Drew Maverick (Scared to Death 2015, Pool Party Massacre 2017), Jennifer Louise (Spirit Animal 2020, Little Mouse 2023), Joseph Russio (Spirit Animal 2020, Beyond Dark Dreams 2021), Tom Gross (Spirit Animal 2020, Natasha Nighty’s Boudoir of Blood 2 2022), and Tim Gross (Jagoff Massacre 2013, Blood Freak 2020).

Bathtub Shark Attack

The acting in this isn’t the greatest and the dialogue is neither here nor there. There were some fantastic one-liners, along with some truly knee-slapping scares. However, as a whole, it’s a tad convoluted and a little tough to get through at times. Nonetheless, it’s still a wicked raucous romp in the tub.

Ruby Craft is great in the leading role. She provides an enthusiastic, unsuspecting, gut-churning performance as Cindy, the bathtub-obsessed tenant with nothing but water on the brain. Also, Ben Dietels is awesome as her boyfriend Chad, bringing a sense of reality and serenity to it all.

Legendary horror icon Lynn Lowry adds a touch of class and sophistication to the film, and Carly Sonafelt is great as the nosey neurotic neighbor, the perfect yin to her yang. Tim Gross is fantastic as the overtly pretentious plumber, and Keith Monohan absolutely slays as the foul-mouthed partygoer Timmy. You can’t help but root against him.

The cinematography is decent, and the gags and gore are entertaining and worth the price of admission alone. The music and sound are excellent, although a little busy in certain areas, and the editing is spot on. There are some really cool sets, along with some very fitting costumes, definitely adding to the campiness of the film.

What really stood out was the creepy contorted concept of a person becoming obsessed with an inanimate object, ala the bathtub. It’s pure genius by design, although it does take some suspension of disbelief for it to be enjoyed. And, if all of that wasn’t enough, it had one of the sickest endings ever produced on celluloid. You are forewarned.

Bathtub Shark Attack

Overall, Bathtub Shark Attack 2023 is hilarious, absurd, and completely shark shit crazy. It’s dark, sadistic, and absolutely sharktastic. Two fins up. Total booze and bathtub fun. It does for baths what Jaws did for swimming in the ocean. Definitely give this one a go if you get the chance. It’s one chomping good time.
