The other week we got to talk with Lavinia Postolache the producer of the new science fiction thriller, April X. We discuss the operations of being a producer and what got her into this line of work. As well as the cast and director of the film.
Check it out!
PopHorror (AJ Friar): Hey Lavinia, how are you doing?
Lavinia: Hi, AJ. Great. Great to be here. Thank you.
PopHorror (AJ Friar): Yeah, so what drew you to April X to be a producer on the project?
Lavinia: Oh my God, the story. I wanted to start my journey as a producer with something bold but intimate. I was nervous because it’s a sci-fi and it felt very expensive, a high concept. But then I thought about the recording memories as being near future, so that felt relatable at an indie scale. I fell in love with the characters, the relationship between the brother and the sister. And it just felt like a deeply human story about connection.
PopHorror (AJ Friar): Yeah. And working as a producer on April X, did you get to work closely with the actors as well, giving your input on having their input? How did that all come together on this project?
Lavinia: Of course. I actually brought Connor in through my manager. We were represented by the same manager at that time. But we hired two casting directors, one in Romania for the Romanian cast, and one in US for the leads. And I’ve had a lot of ideas, but I don’t like to overstep on the director’s work. I like the director to be part of his directing. But I was involved in finding locations, financing, bringing designers for wardrobe, just facilitating things that producers do.

PopHorror (AJ Friar): Right. And then you say this was your first project that you produced as well?
Lavinia: Yes.
PopHorror (AJ Friar): So how did you get into that line of work as well?
Lavinia: So I started as a model and actor, and during COVID I was reading a lot of scripts, and I just enjoyed thinking of who else could play certain characters. I also have a business mind and I found a script, which is actually my second film. It’s called The Right Kind of Wrong with Scott Eastwood and Wes Dukovney. I pitched it to LBI. They fell in love with the script. I got Scott attached, but at the time he was also filming Fast and Furious. So having that project on board, I felt that I can do something else on the side. And the director of April X wanted to shoot in Romania. I’m originally from Romania and it worked out perfectly and loved the script.
PopHorror (AJ Friar): And how was it like shooting in Romania as well? It has to be a beautiful country to film a project too.
Lavinia: It was beautiful. It was so cold and I was really impressed with Connor and Lily for not… They were just rolling and acting so well under that cold weather. But it was nice. It was nice to be back home and work with people that I grew up and I admired to have them on set. And it’s been a great and fun experience.

PopHorror (AJ Friar): Well, Lavinia, thank you so much for joining me today. Hopefully I got your name pronounced correctly during this.
Lavinia: Thank you, AJ.
PopHorror (AJ Friar): Hope you have a good rest of your day as well.
Lavinia: You too. Thank you.
