I Watched Ten Terrible Ouija Films So You Don’t Have To!

Of the many tropes in horror films, I have one that I will never, ever break: never use a Ouija Board. And while plenty of people have seen Ouija and Ouija 2: Origin of Evil, there exists an entire second string of films about summoning spirits – and I watched ten of them so you don’t have to! Let’s bring on the films!

Ouija 3: The Charlie Charlie Challenge

Synopsis

An eccentric haunted house owner invites a group of hapless teens over to play the terrifying game known as Charlie Charlie. Meant to be just spooky fun, the game soon turns into a nightmare leaving everyone battling for their lives.

The film was directed by Derek Presley (Red Stone).

While I’m not against using two pencils instead of an actual Ouija Board, I am against slapping a movie together in such a sloppy fashion that it’s nearly unwatchable. A low budget doesn’t mean you forget about script, acting, logic, reason, or making sense.

Ouija 4

Synopsis

Min (Jacqueline Ch’ng), Lung (Sammy Sum), Keong and Fen are business partners of an online game design company, which is on the verge of winding up due to the lack of clients. Just as things start to get worse, a mysterious lady, Mrs. Wong (Paw Hee Ching) offers them a sizable sum of money if they could complete the final stages of her deceased son’s online game – Ouija Board and launch it thereafter. They readily accept the business. Soon mysterious things happen and they experience ghost sighting

Directed by Jill Wong (Guilty).

This one was a surprise! I would say this was the best of all of the Ouija films on this list in terms of story and acting. Also, it had a really cool Ouija Board design! If you see one film on this list, make it this one! Or watch something not on this list – something better.

Ouija Witch

Ouija Witch

Synopsis

The brutal assault of a young woman sends her to a mysterious shopkeeper who summons the spirit of an evil witch to visit revenge on the attackers.

Directed by Robert Michael Ryan (Dark Revelations).

While billed as a lead, don’t expect to see much of Sean Young here. This film was fairly mediocre compared to the others. I honestly had to restart it to remember anything about it. It always kills me that an incredibly hot woman dressed in a witch outfit (not during Halloween) can come on to a dirty, gross guy and they see NOTHING suspicious about it. I strive to one day have the same level of self-confidence as the thugs in Ouija Witch.

Ouija Hosts

Synopsis

Presenters of paranormal TV show “Ghost Hosts” are filming in an abandoned haunted building as part of a Halloween special. The stories surrounding the horrifying ghosts of the mansion are about to become reality.

Directed by Steven M. Smith (Alfred the Doll).

Do you like massive scarves? Well, you better get one if you plan to be a decent paranormal investigator on this team! All kidding aside, I actually thought this one had fairly likable characters that I didn’t want to see die instantly (unlike Ouija Nazi, where I wanted pretty much everyone dead 10 minutes in).

Ouija House

Ouija House

Synopsis

A girl takes her friends to a house with a dark past for a research project. They unwittingly summon an evil entity with plans of its own who makes the house part of its sinister game.

Directed by Ben Demaree (Hansel vs. Gretel).

While not particularly good in terms of acting, this film did have an interesting premise: make the entire house one giant Ouija board. And while not completely successful, this is one of those films I’d love to see remade with more money. This film will also answer the burning question: What *HAS* Tara Reid been up to lately?

Ouija Nazi

Synopsis

Six sorority girls escape to the desolate countryside for a weekend getaway. There, they will stay at the ancestral home of their token geek legacy pledge, Dawn… But, unbeknownst to them, an evil force from World War II is waiting for them. Dawn’s great-grandfather, it turns out, was a notorious Nazi murderer. He was known to torture his victims for no apparent reason… before killing them.

This dark family secret has been hidden for decades, even from Dawn herself… Until now. A séance will awaken the spirit of the Nazi Killer, who will possess his descendant’s body… There will be a new Dawn… A Nazi Dawn… She will take over, where her great grandfather left off… and take the lives of her sorority sisters… and their male guests… one by one.

AKA: (Nazi Dawn)- directed by Dennis Devine (Alice in Murderland).

As I mentioned above, this is one of those movies where I rooted for the killers right away. Just. Kill. Everyone. I’d rather clean the bathroom with a toothbrush than sit through this movie again.

Ouijageist

Synopsis

Young single mum, India moves into her new flat and adds to the pressures of finding employment and meeting the rent when she and her friend begin dabbling with a Ouija board they found at the property. Evil powers are unleashed and mysterious deaths begin to occur.

Directed by John R. Walker (Amityville Theater).

This movie is as thrilling as watching someone move into the apartment across the hall. Point of fact, there was absolutely no visible excitement shown by any character in this film at any time. Absolute snoozefest.

Ouija Japan

Synopsis

Karen, an American living in Japan, desperately wants to fit in and plays the Japanese Ouija with her peers, unwittingly disrespecting a local deity who sets her up to fight her newfound friends in a deadly game of battle royal.

Directed by Masaya Kato.

Do you still have nightmares about mean high school girls? Would you like to relive all those terrible memories as an adult but in a foreign country? Then this is your film! I think the best description would be Great Value Battle Royale.

Ouija Shark

Synopsis

A group of teenage girls summon an ancient man-eating shark after messing with a spirit board that washes up on the beach. An occult specialist must enter the shark’s realm to rid this world of the deadly spirit ghost once and for all.
Directed by Brett Kelly (Raiders of the Lost Shark).
Where to begin…let me start off by saying that while the special effects were pretty low-budget, they were not the worst part of this movie. I was most annoyed by the bizarre way the main character behaved: swimming at dawn in murky water (do you even watch Shark Week?), never changing her clothes, and getting drunk on one wine cooler. And what is with movies that have these friend groups that seem like they would never really be friends in real life? All my petty griping aside, I give this film credit for the obvious passion of the filmmakers who made it. Unlike some of the movies on this list, they really went for it.

Ouija Shark 2

Synopsis

When the Ouija Shark emerges from Hell to cause havoc once more on earth, a sorcerer with a history of fighting the ghostly great white must follow it into a multiverse hellscape for one final battle. But this time he is bringing along some friends to help send the shark into oblivion.
Directed by John Migliore (Creature from Cannibal Creek).
Here by popular demand, the sequel absolutely no one asked for! I was really ambivalent during a lot of this (mostly because my brain was absolutely numb from the first one) until they hit us with a musical number. I’m not going to say how bad it was, but let’s just say I think I  know what the soundtrack to hell sounds like. So, viewer discretion is advised I guess?

I know I missed some, so I’m sure there will be a part two of this at some point! If there are any favorites I’ve missed, tell me about it in the comments!

Oh, and if Ouija Films aren’t your thing and you like Amityville films instead? I’ve got you covered…here!
