Wounds

Hulu Original ‘Wounds’ (2019) Movie Review: Pure Nightmare Fuel

I always get excited about Hulu Originals. In my opinion, Hulu is one of the best streaming devices out there and they always have fantastic and well-made content. One of their newest Hulu Originals is called Wounds. I couldn’t wait to sink my teeth into this depraved madness!

This new horror drama was directed and written by Babak Anvari (Under the Shadow). It has a killer cast starring Armie Hammer (The Lone Ranger), Dakota Johnson (Suspiria), Zazie Beetz (Joker), Karl Glusman (Neon Demon), and Brad William Henke (Orange Is the New Black).

Wounds

Official Synopsis for Wounds

Just because you can look, doesn’t mean you should. After a New Orleans bartender picks up a cell phone left behind in his bar, a series of disturbing and inexplicable events begin to unravel his life.

This film reminds of a new age version of Rings and I really enjoyed it. It was well-made with an intriguing storyline, compelling characters, and unlike most films… will probably leave me with full-fledged nightmares tonight. Yes, it’s pure nightmare fuel. Imagine finding a phone and after unlocking it, it’s like the third circle of hell and you never know what’s going to happen next. Damn technology.

Wounds

All of the performances are exceptional in Wounds, which is important in a horror drama like this otherwise it’s hard to take it seriously. Armie Hammer delivers an emotionally powered performance that ranges from mellow to extreme throughout its runtime. Hammer and Zazie Beet’s connection on-screen is electrifying and you can’t look away when they’re together. Dakota Johnson also delivers a riveting performance that will send shivers down your spine.

Wounds

The last scene will forever probably be branded into my memory. It was horrifying. If you have a bug phobia like myself, you’ll understand why after you see. It also delivered some badass and high-end special effects that will leave your skin crawling.

Final Thoughts

With Halloween just around the corner, I highly recommend checking out this Hulu Original and watch the madness unfold for yourself. Wounds is packed full of disturbing fun and unique qualities. It is sure to become a favorite among genre fans and a must-watch for all subscribers.
