Happy Birthday, Mr. Cenobite! Doug Bradley Turns 62

I may be slightly biased, but some birthdays tend to be a little more legendary than others. Today, September 7, 2016, is our favorite Cenobite Doug Bradley’s 62nd birthday! Let’s look at the life of the man who has made a difference in the lives of us horror fiends for the past several decades.

Doug Bradley was born in Liverpool, England and has been friends with Clive Barker ever since his school days. Together, they created the theater group called Dog Company.B arker went on to write several scripts, while Bradley went into acting, including starring in Barker’s Hellraiser as the lead cenobite, Pinhead. He was one of the most badass horror icons ever, and Bradley played him in 8 of the Hellraiser movies, getting him solidly stamped into the Movie Monster Hall of Fame.

Some of his most famous quotes from this Hellraiser franchise are:

  • “Do I look like someone who cares what God thinks?”
  • “Welcome to the worst nightmare of all… reality!”
  • “We have such sights to show you!”
  • “The box… you opened it, we came.”
  • “Welcome… to Hell.”
  • “Your suffering will be legendary, even in hell!”

Beyond his role as Pinhead, he has done other movies such as Clive Barker’s Nightbreed where he played monster Dirk Lylesberg. He was also in A Vampire’s Taleas Jacob and Scream Parkas Mr. Hyde. Those are only a few, though, so make sure to check out his IMBd page for more about his other roles.

Beyond his movie career, he also wrote a book called Behind the Mask of the Horror Actor, which is a must-read! If you haven’t read it already, click that link. It will bring you directly to where you can read more about the book and purchase it, if you so wish. If you don’t, your suffering may be legendary. Another fun fact is that he narrated several songs by the band Cradle of Filthon two albums: Midian and Nymphetamine. That’s pretty awesome!
