Chad Faust’s ‘Girl’ (2020) – Fantastic Fest 2020 Movie Review

Fantastic Fest 2020 has a great lineup this year and Girl is another film I had the privilege of watching.
girl

This film was written and directed by Chad Faust. The cast includes Bella Thorne, Mickey Rourke, Chad Faust, Lanette Ware, Glen Gould, and Elizabeth Saunders.

Synopsis for Girl

A young woman returns to her small hometown intent on killing her abusive father only to discover someone murdered him the day before. As the girl searches for answers, she uncovers a family legacy more dangerous than she’d imagined.

Girl was an overwhelmingly emotional experience from beginning to end. This story is unique and special. It makes you think about how sometimes we are only told one part of the story and how different the other part can be. How different our lives would be if we knew.

This is one of Bella Thorne’s best performances. She delivers an emotionally powered performance that is hard to watch sometimes. You can feel her pain, resentment, anger, and sadness. Mickey Rourke’s performance was also great and he plays the perfect villain.

The end was bittersweet and left me wanting a bit more but I also enjoyed it. I think it also shows that sometimes you have to put your past behind you, to truly move forward in the present.

Final Thoughts

I would definitely recommend checking out Girl, especially for the performances and unique story.
