PopHorror Let's Get Scared
One of the largest and most prestigious genre film fests in the world, Fantasia International Film Festival, is at it again! From July 16th through August 3rd in Montreal, Quebec, the 29th edition of Fantasia will provide eclectic and explosive viewing material for movie enthusiasts. Numerous world premieres, shorts, anime, retro screenings, and of course, features from around the globe, will be rounding out the impressive slate of programming this year.
The famed fest will also be acknowledging the lifetime achievements of musician Danny Elfman and Genndy Tartakovsky, who created the legendary animated series Powerpuff Girls and Samurai Jack, among others. This year, the Indie Maverick Award honor goes to Lloyd Kaufman, president of the influential Troma Films, who have entertained generations with their over-the-top brand of comedy, sex, and horror.
Fantasia is also boasting in-person discussions with some stellar talent including producer Anne-Marie Gélinas (Slaxx; Turbo Kid; Radius), the Canadian pride and joy, George Mihalka (My Bloody Valentine; Beijing Express), and more! In addition, writer Payton McCarty-Simas will be having a special book launch and discussion centered around their work, That Very Witch – Fear, Feminism, and the American Witch Film.

One of the most prolific filmmakers ever to sit in the director’s chair, Takashi Miike, is heading to Fantasia with TWO feature films AND an anime. Blazing Fists and Sham will be his two live action offerings.
Neon’s highly anticipated feature from Michael Shanks, Together, starring real life husband and wife Alison Brie and Dave Franco, which has acquired plenty of buzz.
Fucktoys by Annapurna Sriram aims to please with its dark comedy.
Indonesian horror comes back swinging with the latest their horror-loving culture has to offer, The Book of Sijjin and Illiyyin by director Hadrah Daeng Ratu.
