‘AMERICAN SATAN’ Sequel Announced By Director Ash Avildsen

Sex, drugs, and rock ‘n roll (and the occasional devil’s sacrifice) will abound in the highly-anticipated American Satan II: The Beast Goes On, it was recently announced by director and writer Ash Avildsen.

It’s been seven years since the original American Satan hit theaters, chronicling the journey of fictional up-and-coming rock band The Relentless — helmed by Johnny Faust (Andy Biersack, Legion of the Black 2012) — as it faces the dark underbelly of the vitriolic music industry. The film was followed up with the Amazon Prime Video series Paradise City, which, over the course of one season, sees Johnny continue to be torn between good and evil.

After the season’s ending in 2021, news of more Relentless content was largely nonexistent. Numerous factors were at play, especially the tragic 2019 death of Paradise City star Cameron Boyce (Mirrors 2008 [our review]), age 20, who passed away from a seizure caused by epilepsy. Boyce portrayed Simon, an aspiring artist and massive fan of The Relentless. Then, the COVID-19 crisis in 2020 made it practically impossible for independent projects to move forward.

Therefore, it was a much-welcomed surprise when Avildsen, founder and CEO of Sumerian Records, took to Instagram to share that production on American Satan II: The Beast Goes On is set to begin in the first half of 2025. His statement said, in part:

“I’ve decided to continue telling the story of The Relentless and those around them firstly with a sequel to the original film. My reasons for this are primarily three things:

  1. It will allow for a much sooner release of the AS/PC story to continue and answer so many of your questions from the end of season one.

  2. This format is better suited to dive heavily in to some very controversial topics which seeds were planted in both the movie and the series. You can use your imagination of certain public figures, events and docs that have come to light since 2017 and the references made in both AS and PC that now seem more relevant than ever.

  3. Movie theaters need independent films that have fans. I absolutely love cinema and I believe it is more important now than ever in history to support your local theaters.”

Avildsen added that a comic series for The Relentless will be released via Sumerian Comics in the near future. These images, he said, will give fans a sneak peak of what’s to come. He concluded:

“Thank you again for caring about a silly little idea I had years ago to show a modern take on the Faustian tale set in the world of today’s hard rock scene as I began my journey in to filmmaking. I promise to do everything I can to give you a sequel that is more bespoke, effectual and timely with better story telling and performances than where we started and where we have gone.”

At the time of this writing, the official cast of American Satan II had yet to be announced, though many fans are warning that they’ll be less inclined to watch if Biersack, of Black Veil Brides fame, Booboo Stewart (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse 2010), and Bella Thorne (Midnight Sun 2018) don’t reprise their roles as Johnny, Vic Lakota, and Lily Mayflower, respectively.
