Getting over a tragedy isn’t easy. Sometimes the pain never quite heals. However, with the little help from your friends, things can get better. Or so one would think…
In the new horror thriller, The 6th Friend, a group of friends learn this lesson the hard way after gathering together in a remote cabin the woods. No one is safe, but will anyone survive?
This highly anticipated new horror film was directed by Letia Clouston (The Midwife’s Deception, The Engagement Clause) who also co-wrote the screenplay with Jamie Bernadette (I Spit On Your Grave: Deja Vu). Jamie also stars in the film, along with Dominique Swain (Lolita, Face/Off), Jessica Morris (One Life to Live, The Wrong Student), Chantelle Albers (In Search of Fellini), Tania Nolan (Home and Away, Step Dave), and Monique Rosario (Drifter).
Synopsis for The 6th Friend
Six college best friends throw a private graduation party that goes terribly wrong when an uninvited guest arrives. Five years later, the girls gather once again and endure a night of far more horror and bloodshed.
A secluded getaway in the woods is a story we’ve heard time and time again, but The 6th Friend gives it a interesting new take with twists and turns lurking around each corner. It’s also fun, and I dug the girl empowerment vibe throughout the film.
All of the cast was great, but Jamie Bernadette’s character was, by far, my favorite. At first, you’re thinking that maybe she’s just moody and needs to get over it, but after awhile, you’re like, “Wait, no, she’s actually smart and knows in her gut that this isn’t a good idea.” Her character goes from someone who fears everything to someone who isn’t going down without a fight, and it’s pretty inspiring. I also really enjoyed Chantelle Albers and Monique Rosario’s characters as well. There was a lot of emotion and turmoil within their performances that made them stand out from the other girls.
Although the film isn’t what I would call scary, it is indeed suspenseful. You’re constantly wondering what is happening, how it’s happening. and why it’s happening… that is, until about halfway through. I don’t always see things coming, but with this one, I started to piece the puzzle together slowly, and it all made sense once I did. Either way, it was enjoyable and interesting to see it all unfold.
There’s a decent amount of blood and gore with a few unique kills thrown in. One death in particular that stands out the most is brutal and unexpected, but I can’t really give it away. You’ll just to have to watch and it see for yourself.
Final Thoughts on The 6th Friend
This is a female-empowered cast and crew that delivers a suspenseful, unique story that will have you constantly guessing. It’s one that I will definitely be adding to my horror collection, and I think everyone will have a fun time with it. This is the perfect film to watch with your girls, drink some wine, and play a guessing game of who will die first. The 6th Friend released in theaters on January 11 and will hit VOD on January 15.
