This unique film is co-directed by Juuso Laatio and Jukka Vidgren. The cast includes Torstein Bjørklund, Antti Heikkinen, Ville Hilska, Johannes Holopainen, Minka Kuustonen, and more.

Official Synopsis for Heavy Trip:

Turo (25) is trying to overcome his fears by leading the most unknown heavy metal band in Finland, Impaled Rektum, to the hottest metal festival of Norway. The journey includes heavy metal, grave robbing, Viking heaven and an armed conflict between Finland and Norway.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this film. I love watching foreign films but this is the first type I’ve seen a comedy in a foreign language. With having to read subtitles I was worried it would lose some of its comedy for me. It didn’t. Heavy Trip takes awhile to build up momentum but once it does, you won’t be disappointed.

The story has unique and interesting characters that you learn to grow and love. Each one different and slightly an underdog. They have big goals and dreams despite all the people around them who think they’re shit, well at least most people.

As I mentioned previously, it definitely delivers a fun comedy. Even some of the “sad” parts made you laugh, which is rare for me. One of the best parts of the film was the grave robbing scene and you can’t get more metal than that.

Oh and that music isn’t half bad either especially if you rock and metal.

Final Thoughts on Heavy Trip:

If you enjoy a comedy about underdogs trying to catch a break and make their dreams come true then Heavy Trip is for you. The atmosphere reminded me of a mix of movies from the 80’s and 90’s which definitely caught my attention as I’m sucker for those decades.
