PopHorror Let's Get Scared
When it comes to exorcism films, they’re pretty much the same nowadays. The concept has been repeated over and over again over the years. Does American Exorcism provide horror fans with the same gimmick, or does it bring something new to the table?

Damon Richter (Michael Filipowich) thought he left the world of possessions, exorcisms, and evil behind until an old friend arrives with frightening news about his estranged daughter knowing that only his otherworldly skills can save her.
American Exorcism was written and directed by Tripp Weathers. Tripp has previously worked on documentaries and short films, before bringing us this new film. American Exorcism brought a premise I’ve never seen before when it comes to possession films.
What Works
I really enjoyed the overall concept. American Exorcism brought a very unique storyline. I also thought the camera work was very well done. The music fit the film perfectly.
I have no complaints on the acting. I thought Kate Tumanova did a fantastic job with her role. I also enjoyed Michael Filipowich’s performance. Both actors were very dedicated and entertaining in their roles.
What Didn’t Work
The special effects were very distracting. The glowing eyes and mouth seemed to take away from a tense situation.
While I loved Kate Tumanova’s performance as Caroline, I just couldn’t root for her character. When we are first introduced to her as an adult, we only see her as almost completely possessed, so she’s already doing terrible things. Even in a ten year span, there wasn’t really any character development.
Final Thoughts
Overall, the film was reminiscent of a Supernatural episode. Granted, the story itself was a very unique idea, but it did have some very noticeable flaws. However, for a low budget film, it was well done.
