Rupture (2017): What Doesn’t Kill You Makes Makes You Stronger

What I love about art, books, and movies is that they help me think outside the box. I sit and ponder things that I would never have thought about before. Have you ever wondered what the human body is capable of? How much pain can we handle before we break? In the new film Rupture, the story goes deep into exploring the human body despite the host’s wishes.

Distributed by AMBI Media Group, Rupture is a horror sci-fi thriller that brings the best of both worlds in a chillingly eerie atmosphere. The film was directed by Steven Shainberg and co-written by himself and Brian Nelson with a talented cast including Fargo’s Peter Stormare, Alien: Covenants Noomi Rapace, Argo’s Kerry Bishe, and The Shield’s Michael Chiklis.

Official Synopsis:

Rupture follows Renee Morgan (Rapace), a single mom who is deathly terrified of spiders. While in route to meet up with a friend, she is violently abducted by a group of strangers. After enduring intense yet strange questioning and examinations, some about her fear of spiders, Renee soon discovers that she is now the subject of an underground experiment. But what is the purpose of it all and will she be able to escape?

This was a fantastic horror sci-fi story. I was a little hesitant first because sometimes sci-fi films can lean more on the cheesy side (not that cheese is a bad thing) but Rupture took a more serious tone. It started out slow and simple and quickly turned into an intense mindfuck. Why are they abducting this lady? What is the point of these experiments? Of course, all of these questions are answered eventually, but at first, it’s a pretty surreal situation and you have to wonder if things like this ever happen… at least to a certain extent.

I also thought the special effects were done exceptionally well. They didn’t go overboard with them and blended well with the creepy atmosphere as these psychos performed extremely bizarre experiments on human guinea pigs.

The acting all around was excellent, but the standout performance definitely goes to Noomi Rapace. She is extremely talented and this was one of her best roles thus far. Renee seems like your average single mom, but she’s far stronger than anyone could ever imagine. She doesn’t just surrender, she puts up a fight and shows what true courage is. I think she will stand strong along with other women in horror who are relentless badasses.

Last but not least, the ending had a bit of a twist and it seems like there would be room for sequels in the future. In my opinion, though, I don’t think any of them will be near as good as this.

One last thing: There was some interesting wallpaper patterned like the floor in The Shining. I’m not sure if it was intentional, but I couldn’t help but think that anytime it appeared on the screen.

Final Thoughts:

Rupture is a fun and thrilling horror sci-fi film that is sure to entertain audiences. It delivers on all aspects and will have you thinking outside the box. The film was released theatrically today on April 28th, as well as on VOD and Digital HD. Be sure to check it out and let us know what you think.
