PopHorror Let's Get Scared
I love anthology films, it’s always amazing what someone can do even with a restricted time. They give you something fresh in every story, normally ending up in some kind of supernatural climax, normally meaning they are hiding in your home or somewhere dark to terrify you and lead you to your demise. There are some big names in the genre, such as VHS and Creepshow. Rarely does one follow a relatable character, so it is easier on the eyes and mind to kill them off. Halloween Candy is the first I have seen in a while that actually impressed me with different and original stories.
Let’s get into the review of this fantastic watch.
Synopsis
Spending her first Halloween alone, a recently divorced writer searches for inspiration from trick-or-treaters who come to her door. The night becomes a nightmare when one surprise visitor makes this Halloween one she will never forget. As time goes on, we realize that the writer has a few secrets herself.
The Rundown
The film has that magic of a Halloween night when we knocked on doors and prayed for the best; now we watch our kids trick-or-treat from car trunks. Halloween Candy gives that vibe back to us through music meeting the movie in a perfect sequence. There weren’t many jump scares, and to me, that’s a good thing. I like being led down the death trap, constantly waiting for a delivery of that sweet, sweet serotonin. The film didn’t have the greatest acting, and that’s the way I think it should be; it honestly made me feel nostalgic for that magic night where we could be anything we wanted.
If I were forced to pick any story that stuck with me, it would be Halloween House. Any haunt actor knows; you ever break character, however, most haunted attractions really do have some sleazy owners. I have worked haunts for years, and yes, it is really like this sometimes. The other part that I loved was the payback for the sleazeball. I can easily say justice was served in this case. A perfect ending to an interesting story. Some of these short stories stick with me for a long time.
A close second was the Talking to the Dead story, another scene that will replay in my mind when I am in a bad mood for some reason. I am always here to laugh at people getting what they deserve. I could even tell by our hostess author that I never thought to guess she was dangerous, and it was proven in the end. The only short story was her life flashing before his eyes. See, justice was served throughout the movie, hurting the bad people. I found myself cheering and saying “Yeah! Put that b#*tch on ice, making these visitors Halloween heroes.
In The End
In the end, I am still fully entertained, even if some stories were just a bit of filler for the better things to come. I would easily make this movie a “Spooky Season” a little more interesting. My kids are now teenagers, and I can sit and watch the film in its terrifying glory without people complaining about it.
