Review: Laurence Vannicelli’s ‘MOTHER , MAY I?’ (2023) Takes Therapy To A New Level

Mother, May I? (2023) just hit my radar. All I needed to know is that the movie stars Kyle Gallner and I was sold on checking it out. Did the movie meet my expectations? Keep reading to find out.

Mother, May I? (2023) is a new horror thriller that takes therapy for mommy issues to a whole new level. It is written and directed by Laurence Vannicelli (Vera, 2015), and stars Kyle Gallner (Jennifer’s Body, 2009) and Holland Roden (Escape Room, 2019).

Movie Synopsis:

What Works:

The concept of Mother, May I? (2023) is quite clever, and it is refreshing to have a movie that offers something new for viewers to enjoy. The plot is delivered in such a way it is unclear the reality of the main characters.

There are exemplary performances delivered by both leads in Mother, May I? (2023), with the film really showcasing the exceptional talent of Kyle Gallner. He is best known for the horror films Jennifer’s Body (2009), A Haunting in Connecticut (2009), and A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010); however, his skill as an actor has heightened recently in films like The Passenger (2023), and Dinner in America (2020). Kyle is a phenomenal talent that draws me to watch any film he is attached to.

What Didn’t Work:

The slow pacing of the film at times is my only complaint. There were points that tended to drag that maybe could have been edited down to help the flow, but this is a minor issue and overall, the film is great.
