Shudder has acquired the rights to Filip Jan Rymsza’s Mosquito State. The film will be a part of Shudder’s Summer of Chills lineup which will feature a new film every week throughout August. Mosquito State was an official selection of the Venice Film Festival in 2020. It earned the Bisato d’ Oro award for Best Cinematography. Rymsza directed the film and also co-wrote the script with Mario Zermeno. The cast includes Beau Knapp (Seven Seconds), Charlotte Vega (Wrong Turn), Jack Kesy (Deadpool 2), and Oliver Martinez (Unfaithful).
Synopsis:
Isolated in his austere penthouse overlooking Central Park, obsessive Wall Street data analyst Richard Boca sees ominous patterns: His computer models are behaving erratically, as are the swarms of mosquitos breeding in his apartment, an infestation that attends his psychological meltdown.
David Rooney of The Hollywood Reporter described the film as “Cronenberg meets Kafka.”
The general manager of Shudder, Craig Engler, also said this of the film:
“Mosquito State is a masterful allegory for the 2007 financial crisis–Wall Street meets The Fly–and serves as the perfect ending to Shudder’s Summer of Chills. Filip Jan Rymsza is very much in command of the ominous, building psycho-horror throughout the film, and we cannot wait for our audience to experience it.”
The film is set to premiere on Shudder on August 26th.
