PopHorror Let's Get Scared
When it comes to sci-fi action films, they’re typically hit or miss for me and I’m rarely eager to watch one. Usually, there has to be something that grabs my interest to have the desire to check it out, and with Occupation: Rainfall, it was the killer cast and crew that drew me in. The film was directed and written by Luke Sparke and stars Dan Ewing, Temuera Morrison, Lawrence Makoare, Daniel Gillies, Zachary Garred, Jet Tranter, Mark Coles Smith, Trystan Go, David Roberts, Dena Kaplan, Izzy Stevens, Vince Colosimo, Jason Isaacs, and Ken Jeong.
Synopsis for Occupation: Rainfall
Occupation: Rainfall unfolds two years into an intergalactic invasion of Earth, as survivors fight back in a desperate ground war. While casualties mount by the day, the resistance—along with some unexpected allies—uncovers a plot that could bring the war to a decisive end. Now, with the alien invaders hell-bent on making our planet their new home, the race is on to save mankind.
To my surprise, I actually enjoyed Occupation: Rainfall quite a bit. Some sci-fi action films can be over the top and too cheesy, but this wasn’t like that at all. It took itself seriously but not too much and had phenomenal acting and character development, spectacular special effects, gorgeous cinematography, and exhilarating action sequences.
Occupation: Rainfall reminded me of some other films in which a species (zombies, aliens, etc) invades Earth and humans have to fight back or lose everything, but it’s much more than that. What I loved about this film is that it shows that nothing is black and white. We all have good and bad in us, no matter what side you feel you belong on. There will always be bad people but that doesn’t make one group of people or species bad just because they’re bad ones among them. Just like the humans vs aliens in this film. It’s very relatable and greatly reflects our current society and some of the horrible events that have happened over the last year.
All of the performances were phenomenal, which isn’t surprising with such a killer cast. Dan Ewing and Daniel Gillies stood out the most to me, though. They had leading performances and the most character development throughout the film. Daniel plays a villain flawlessly, and yet you can’t help but feel for his character and the trauma he’s endured.
The action is nonstop and wildly entertaining in Occupation: Rainfall. The special effects, makeup, and costume design really helped make this film special. I loved the look of the aliens and the fact that they all didn’t look the same. They came in different shapes and sizes and personalities. The cinematography is captivating and surreal.
Overall if you love sci-fi action films, aliens, great acting, and an intense cliffhanger, you’ll enjoy Occupation: Rainfall.
