Agoraphobia

Movie Review: Lou Simón’s ‘Agoraphobia’ (2021) A Twisted, Suspenseful Thriller

White Lotus Productions announced that their horror film Agoraphobia is now available to the North American public. It was directed and written by Lou Simón (check out our interview with her – HERE) and the film features Cassandra Scerbo (Sharknado franchise) and horror icon, Tony Todd (Candyman and Final Destination franchises). With a phenomenal director and great cast, I couldn’t wait to check this out!

Agoraphobia

Synopsis for Agoraphobia

The film tells the story of an agoraphobic who inherits her father’s house in a remote part of the Florida Keys. Afraid to go outside, she discovers that there’s something far more terrifying trapped inside the house with her. Cassandra Scerbo plays the role of the agoraphobic, Faye, and Tony Todd plays her psychiatrist, Doctor Murphy.

Agoraphobia is the type of film that makes you despise humanity even more. As someone who struggles with my own mental illnesses and has come very close to becoming agoraphobic, I could sympathize with the main character on a personal level. A support system is key when struggling with a disabling mental illness and unfortunately, not everyone will truly be on your side especially when things get hard.

Cassandra Scerbo stole this film away with a strong, emotional, and captivating performance as Faye. She quickly becomes the only likable character minus the wonderful Doctor Murphy played by Tony Todd. This was a different type of role for him but it suited him well and showed a softer side to his personality and talent.

Agoraphobia

I knew Agoraphobia was going to be packed with mystery, suspense, and twists but I didn’t see that ending coming even though it made complete sense. All the signs were there. Let’s just say everyone gets what they deserve.

Final Thoughts

I’m a huge fan of Lou Simón’s work and she always delivers a captivating and dangerously delicious story with a strong character that defies all odds. Agoraphobia is now available to rent on Amazon, so be sure to check it out!
