MovieMaker Magazine, the magazine for moviemakers and movie lovers, has named the WOMEN IN HORROR FILM FESTIVAL as one of the World’s 50 Best Genre Fests of 2021. Thanks to a deeply entrenched panel of genre experts, this annual list is MovieMaker’s most thorough collection of genre festivals yet, covering 40 cities, six continents and 16 countries.
MovieMaker elicited the help this year of film producer Alok Mishra, whose horror hit 1BR scored the coveted No. 1 spot on Netflix earlier this fall. He assembled a team of cross-genre experts who drew on their extensive experiences and insights into festivals worldwide.
“Alok and our panelists’ lovingly assembled list includes films from a wide range of genres, from horror to fantasy to science fiction, and they recommended so many deserving festivals that we expanded the list to 50 for the first time,” said MovieMaker editor-in-chief Tim Molloy. “Never has the world felt so much like an eerie movie, and these festivals helped me and countless others distract ourselves from the madness of 2020 in a way that felt healthy, safe and shockingly, gratuitously fun.
The quarterly mag will be hitting newsstands November 3rd, but you can read the entire list online here. On the heels of this amazing news, WIHFF is thrilled to announce the special guest jury for 2021, who will be determining the nominees and winners after the first round of judging has been completed by our independent panel of judges. We are honored to welcome back actress Heather Langenkamp, film director Adam Marcus & author/podcaster S.A. Bradley. Joining us for the first time on the jury is The Real Queen of Horror, Zena Sadè Dixon, and Atlanta based actors/writers Melissa Kunnap & Brian Ashton Smith.
The Women in Horror Film Festival will take place June 10-12, 2021 at the Strand Theatre on the Marietta Square in Atlanta, GA and is currently open for film & screenplay submissions through March 31, 2021.
