According to FridayThe13thFranchise.com, the idea of setting a future Friday the 13th reboot during winter has been bandied about for a while. Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, who scribed the 2009 reboot, even penned a follow-up script that was set, at least in part, at an off-season, snow-covered Camp Crystal Lake.
While Shannon and Swift aren’t involved in the next Friday installment (when last reported, Nick Antosca was attached to write the latest scrip) the idea of Jason Voorhees in a Winter Murder Land struck a chord with fans. One in particular, Will Devokees, took it upon himself to produce a trailer featuring the masked-one chopping and slaying through mounds of snow. It certainly adds a “chilling” twist to the franchise’s established mythologies! Check it out:
Devokees made his intensions clear, stating: “This is not for a real movie! I am a fan of the Friday the 13th Franchise. If ever given the chance to direct a Friday the 13th film, it would look a little something like this. I’ve been a fan since I was a kid and have had this idea for a Friday movie for years. I made this with no money for fun and the love of the character.”
I, for one, truly appreciate Devokees’ enthusiasm and would love to see someone take his unique vision for Friday the 13th and run with it. Where (or when) Jason will chop and slaughter his next batch of victims remains to be seen. We’ll keep you updated as details emerge.
