“You see, before he came down here, it never snowed, and afterwards, it did.”
Hi, I’m D, and I have a problem. I have too many books, if that’s even a thing. I can’t help it because books are one of the things I have always and will always collect. Books are timeless, and you can truly never have too many in your life. If you are like me, any opportunity for new and exciting book adventures is a welcome avenue, but sometimes, it is hard to find something that you have never seen before. Well, my fellow bibliophiles, there is a box for you, and I think you’re going to like it. It is called Wicked Treasures Book Box, and it is for the lovers of all things literary and spooky. What a coincidence, those are two of my favorite things!
A ginormous thank you to Wicked Treasures Book Box for sending us this box to open for you lovely readers! Check out the video of the unboxing, but disclaimer, I was sick as a dog when I filmed this, so please forgive me for my excessive sniffling and my sexy Phoebe from Friends voice. It does get better towards the end of the video, I promise.
The theme of the December 2018 Wicked Treasures Book Box was Plots Against Christmas: Outcasts and Misfits. I can completely relate to that, especially in regards to Christmas. My first thought when looking at the items in this box is that a lot of love went into this. I appreciate handmade items. and they are usually some of my favorites when included in subscription boxes.
I have always felt an affinity to the Grinch. His grumpy personality and indifference to the holiday season is something I have always related to on a deep level, so when I saw The Grinch mug in the box, it was a joyful thing. Considering just how packed full the box was, it came in perfect condition, which is a miracle when you have the luck I have with USPS. I drink a ton of hot tea, so this grumpy mug will get tons of use. One of my absolute favorite things in this box is a homemade Krampusnacht mason jar nightlight. I love this. Not only is the inserted design adorable, but the lights inside are perfect. I will be keeping this up all year long and not just for the holidays.
Like I said before, I am an avid tea drinker, which means I have a reusable travel mug, and it gets hot to the touch every time. That’s why the cute-as-a-button mogwai drink cozy with Gizmo from Gremlins sewn on is SUCH a neat idea. You can tell it is handmade, and I just love that about it. Speaking of cozy, also included was a yummy cinnamon bun candle from Old Williamsburg Candles added by @nichi.I_readpastmybedtime. It smells warm and inviting, albeit more autumn than Christmas, but I’m not complaining. I more enjoy the fall-like smells of baked goods, cinnamon and spicy melanges.
There was also some delightful cherry yeti lip balm, a beautiful and sparkly Jack Skellington nail polish, instant snow from the Ice Kingdom and his highness, the Ice King himself, from Adventure Time (RIP, show). Unfortunately, my little Ice King bookmark had a big black smudge on it, but I think a little Magic Eraser might do the trick.
Along with the Grinch, another curmudgeon I have felt a connection to was Ebenezer Scrooge, and there was a stocking with his favorite catchphrase, “Bah humbug!” on it, stuffed with the most Christmas-y of treats, a HUGE cinnamon candy cane. An Edward Scissorhands bookmark was included and will fit nicely in the final addition to the box. The last item to come out was a book by Chris Priestley called The Last of the Spirits. It is a twist on A Christmas Carol and follows another who was visited by spirits that night before Christmas.
And that was it in the 2018 December Plots Against Christmas Wicked Treasures Book Box unboxing. This box was a lot of fun, and if you like handmade items and handpicked books, then this box is for you. I very much enjoyed it. The boxes are $33, and if you use code CREEPY at checkout, you will get an extra item in your box! The February theme is The Witching Hour with some Sabrina love in it, so head to this link to get one of your own. Keep an eye on PopHorror for more unboxings headed your way!
