Recently announced from Unearthed Films president, Stephen Biro, the next title hand-selected to accompany the already impressively unique and violent films under his banner will be the Argentinian terror, What the Waters Left Behind (2017).
Filmmaking duo and brothers, Luciano and Nicolas Onetti were given a nod at the prestigious Sitges Film Festival for Best Up and Comer with this film, but What the Waters Left Behind team did win was Best Special Effects in 2018 at the Horrorant Film Festival ‘Fright Nights.’ The brothers are no strangers to Biro’s brand, either. The Onetti’s already had a flick of theirs within the Unearthed Films family, Francesca (2015) – a love letter to the art, intrigue, and murder highlighted in Giallo cinema.
This next release from the specialized distribution company promises to be a horrific blending of genre greats like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Hills Have Eyes and even Mad Max.
They Come for YOU! The town of Epecuén was flooded on November 10th, 1985 and was deep underwater for over 30 years. When the waters receded, the town was still intact and stayed deserted, at least so they thought. A group of young filmmakers takes a trip to the ruins to film a documentary. Ignoring the warnings, they get stranded. One by one they soon find that you don’t have to go to Texas for a massacre.
