Synopsis for RATCHED

This is a suspenseful drama series that tells the origin story of asylum nurse Mildred Ratched. In 1947, Mildred arrives in Northern California to seek employment at a leading psychiatric hospital where new and unsettling experiments have begun on the human mind. On a clandestine mission, Mildred presents herself as the perfect image of what a dedicated nurse should be, but the wheels are always turning and as she begins to infiltrate the mental health care system and those within it, Mildred’s stylish exterior belies a growing darkness that has long been smoldering within, revealing that true monsters are made, not born.

During a virtual press conference, Sarah Paulson was asked about what it was like working with Ryan Murphy on RATCHED:

“This was a different one for me because he was very very interested in empowering me before in this way I never experienced before even in the traditional structure of working with him. I had never played a titular character before. I had never owned a piece of a show before. I had never been an executive producer of a show before. And this is all because of him. And it was very important to him.

It was part of the reason why I was so terrified to do it. I thought I don’t have a ton of experience, or stepping into what he would say to me over and over again, “step into your power, step into your power.” And it literally makes me want to take a hot shower and run screaming into the streets to think about stepping into my power because I don’t really know what that means. But he does and he would like me to do more of it. So, it was kind of an interesting thing to confront my hesitation and to deal with all the moments of what does that look like for me? Am I capable? Am I ready? Do I want it? What does it mean if I do? Is that ambition? It was like a whole kind of merit of things to contend with. He always has been my greatest champion. And it’s not without its complications because it is. Any real relationship will be that.”

RATCHED hits Netflix on Friday the 18th and you won’t want to miss this amazing and incredibly haunting series. It has some of the best directors, writers, and actors ever!
