If you’re one of the 10,000,000 or so viewers who tuned in to watch The Walking Dead last night, odds are you saw the trailer for Universal Studios’ THE MUMMY. The Universal Studios reboot starring Tom Cruise is heading to theaters in the Summer of 2017. Check out the trailer here if you missed it.
Actions speak louder than words and this trailer is no exception. I counted about 35 words of actual dialogue (give or take) and about the same number of fires, explosions, and screams from the film’s 54-year-old star. There’s a lot going on here in 2 minutes, 32 seconds.
The Synopsis from Universal: “Though safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia, and terrors that defy human comprehension.”
Well then…

The Mummy is being helmed by Alex Kurtzman who has a lengthy track record as a Writer (Transformers, Star Trek: Into Darkness, Mission Impossible III) and Producer (Scorpion, Hawaii Five-0). This will be just the 5th time in his career Kurtzman will be seated in the Director’s Chair.
The Mummy hopes to be the first in a long line of films that resurrect the Universal Monsters franchise as a shared universe. Variety first broke the story back in 2015. Modern updates of Dracula, Van Helsing, Bride of Frankenstein and The Wolfman will follow should The Mummy prove successful.

No word on the budget, but according to Kurtzman Tom Cruise said, “this is bigger than anything I’ve ever done before.”
That’s a bold statement.
You can check out Kurtzman’s comments and more in this (SPOILER-Y) behind the scenes video. This isn’t your granddad’s Mummy (1932). It’s not your Dad’s (1959) or your older brother’s (1999), either. It’s a Mummy of your very own!
The Mummy rises from the crypt on June 9th, 2017 in theaters and IMAX.
Starring: Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella, Russell Crowe, Annabelle Wallis.
